Ah figures on batteries are very misleading, especially on diesels. Its a valid measurenent for a leisure type battery. Cca , cold cranking amps, is the figure to be more aware of.
Of course I just picked a random one that was cheaper with better spec. Yusas are ok but won't use on my motorbike as they don't last very long.
Not many manufacturers of batteries anymore, including some of the big brand names. Lots are just rebadged
Never said it was flat, said it was dead. If it was flat it wouldn't have show 12 volts, but being dead shows 40 ah instead of 70ah. This is a common problem in todays world of motoring, engines turning over as normal but wont start, dead battery, not flat, dead. I reckon in this last year I've changed at least 6 for friends and family without ever having to change an alternator.
Incorrect. A flat battery can read 12 volts. A charged batery will rrad around 12.6. If its dead then 40 ah isnt available? How on earth can anybody without complex bench equipment give an ah figure test? Id seriously love to know that 1. It may be a faulty battery. But it needs a charge and a test.
Bad design, motorcycle batteries. Leave the bike on the side-stand most of the time, the top quarter of the cells dry out. Should be designed to still be covered when tilted. Mr. HandyAndy - Really
Yes 12 volts is the low end of, I wonder what the actual reading was. But a battery with 12 volts could start a vehicle if it has enough amps to run everything.
Very very unlikely especially on a diesel. Minimum to expect a diesel start would be 12.3, and thats pushing it. 12.4 is the "book" minimum Lower than that and just expect a solenoid click
Old school, batteries on bikes these days are nearly all gel batteries, only small put puts have lead acid batteries on.
My own 2.5 litre VW lt35 is old, that will start on any old battery as long as it has enough to run the glow plugs (old school ), even run it for a year on a battery from a fiesta.
