For anyone interested, this is a good link. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=222&t=1380678&i=0 You need to scroll down a bit. I am after doing similar on layout. Any suggestions on light weight alternative materials.
Only thing I would change, if it were me, I'd get some nice low profile alloys on it. Not a fan of the BF Goodrich tires.
The AT set up would be better for me with the places my van ends up, but I think I need something in-between on black steel wheels
My conversion is starting. Took it to get remapped today, only had a short drive home in it on wet roads so the wheels where spinning out on heavy acceleration, but it seems to have had the desired effect. Off to the body shop tomorrow to get a price for some dings and a t5 to t5.1 facelift and then off to a specialist to price up fitting a diesel heater and split charge system. Any campers out there that could point me the right direction to what to have on my split charge system. Inverter?
Forget the diesel heater and fit an lpg gas tank, that way you can run a fridge and hob from it aswell, maybe even hot water.
Really. I have been doing my research on it and the diesel heaters and bludy expensive. I will in to the lpg. Does it create condensation, would it need to be vented?
I don't know if it's enough power for a camper, but I put a 1000w pure sine wave inverter in my new van yesterday. Mainly to run the battery chargers. For inverters I recommend you go for pure sine wave as opposed to modified, makes it more suited to laptops and sensitive devices. Will you be putting in a Hook up, or just a leisure battery? +1 for LPG, much better than propane, if you go places it is available. You could even put the LPG tank under the van if there is clearance. Use Tiger sealant for any holes in the bodywork rather than silicone.
That will be decided by the fitting team. In mine in have a lpg heater along with hot water heater, hob, fridge and a gas powered generator. Mine not a T5, its an America RV.
Was just looking at a tank under the body, thats where I plan on putting the heater too. Its not going to be a conventional conversion as I want to be able to get my motorbike in and I will need to keep my rhino roof rack for timber.
What you thinking? Bed, bike store, *******? And Rockwool for the win, Celotex too hard to work with.
Single bed to the side behind driver that pulls out. So it will be a box for tools during work. Removable kitchen unit that I can move about the van or site it outside. Probably just a burner, grill, chest fridge and small sink. If I have the bike with me it will probably come out the van as soon as I am where I want to be, but I also want everything accessible while the bike is in there.
A fold down bed might be an idea, can store the bike there during the day then take it out and drop the bed down.
I'd stick floor hooks in, could strap the bike down then. Wiggy doesn't appear to me as the 'careful corners' type of person
Its a SWB, I was thinking of chopping it in and getting a LWB 4 motion. Either way my van needs some work to get it up to scratch, so I will just mess about with it for a while. This is the sort of thing I have in mind with the bed and kitchen. Can you think of anything I might want in the electric hook up compartment?
