    Help please!
My kitchen is an extension on my house (not sure when it was put up, but within the last 10 years) - not a flat roof, it's tiles - and it's started raining in. I'm guessing there's something amiss where the new roof meets the original wall and the rain is running down the beams???? There's no sign of any broken tiles, but the leading was loose at one corner last summer and had to be put back...(Total blond here but my dad was building trade so it makes sense in my head!)

Would roofers cement solve my problem if I can dare to get up the ladder?

I'm completely broke so I'll have to try and DIY it first before I sell my kids to pay for a roofer :(

    Got any photo's.

Might be leaking through the lead flashing, which has come adrift,or missing cement which is allowing water to get in.

I haven't got a ladder atm to get up outside - the water is coming in where the ceiling crack is which is about 4ft away from the original outside wall

Is the gutter clear & not blocked, seen it were it overflows & back to the property.

Usually if the lead flashing was leaking water would take easiest route straight down the orginal wall, & into room, it wouldn't nomally run 4' across a ceiling to a crack unless there a fall on ceiling.
But, water can take some strange routes getting from a to b.

    I'll have a look - thanks

  6. Jeez - that skimming makes mine look good... :(

Anyhoo, does the ceiling slope like the outside roof, or is it level inside? Either way, as KIAB says, water can take seemingly strange routes.

It's coming through along that line almost certainly because that's where two sheets of plasterboard join together, so there's a natural 'break' there.

And, most likely it is getting in where this roof joins the main house wall - that's an obvious weak point.

You say the flashing came loose before? How was it stuck back down? Can you recall if it's real lead, or is it self-adhesive (stick-on) flashing band?

And I take it yer dad doesn't live anywhere close?!

I wondered about that??? It's in about the right place for where it's coming in. I can't see any signs of the rain bleaching that way though... (spending most of my life with my head out the window... neighbours think i'm bloody mental)

I know! It's the house that bloody Jack built!! No the ceiling isn't sloped - and it was my window cleaner who reattached the lead - it's just like a sheet which he bent round the edge of the tiles near the bargeboard. And no ... my dad died 13 years ago so not much chance he can help out :(

Very low roof pitch for those tiles, rain blowing under tiles and in.

No, maybe make good to the gaps as MrHandyAndy pointed out, get the lead flashing checked/repaired, the roof could probably be sealed with a roof tile specialist paint that I can't think of the product name at the moment. Similar to RENOTEX RENO-ROOF. (Google it)

That's like most leaks though. Just enough rain to make it leak.
