Hi, Getting ready to start a sub base for a driveway, roughly 12m by 8m. Planning to use a reduced fines material, mot type 3 possible. The driveway slopes in 2 different directions, if you imagine a rectangle area the right half is a steady incline for 9m in length to a wall. The second half will slope towards the right side. Planning on 150mm sub base but what im not sure is how to get my levels, so the gradient is equel and 150mm throughout. The only way i thought was to use wood marker stakes and knock them in to the depth. Any advise would be welcome,Thanks Gradient down towards gates
Stretch a string line or two from a known level point to another known level point and measure down with a tape measure.
MOT Type 1 is what you need and the best level is your eyes, because of the slopes how it looks is far more important than actual specific levels. 150mm is the minimum depth of sub-base 200mm is more suitable.
I'm going to be putting down pebbles/loose stone not decided yet. Due to the size i thought it would need to be permeable sub base to stop pooling underneath. Planned on working with as close to 5% gradient on the slopes. I just don't want it to be all different levels due to the size of the area.
Because up until very recently it was the only MOT Type used on driveways, all these stupid SUDs laws will end up causing major problems long term. Look at the claims going in for Cavity Wall Insulation after all the damage its causing some older houses.
