Is this a scam? - Leak letter from 'Thames Water'

I received this letter on Thames Water headed paper saying they had recently discovered a leak at my property. It offers to send out a plumber for free to fix the leak. There is no leak at my property that I know of.

The email address given is for a company called 'Essential Water Services Ltd' and the phone number given goes straight to voicemail.

Does Thames Water outsource this kind of thing to third parties? Or is this some kind of misplaced/fraudulent attempt to drum up business for an independent company?

Send a copy of letter to Thames Water, can see a lot of elderly people getting caught with this one.

Looks a bit suspicious, that email address is not to one owned by Thames water.
Looks more like someone trying to look official, I certainly would not be contacting them, may even go as far as sending a copy the TW to see if they comment.

Yeah, just phone TW and ask them. Especially the bit about "you may remember we found a leak."

Coz I bet you don't remember anything of the sort!

Phone number not the number given by them to report leaks.

But the most glaring thing is "The Occupier" What,!! don't they know who their customers are.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Sure they do. Coz everyone in the street has had a letter the same. Ask your neighbours. I'd put money on it.

Name same 'Essential Water Services Ltd' as in op's post.

So one of the same firm I say.

    Just ignore it.
The water authorities have no responsibility at all for plumbing beyond where the service pipe enters a property.
The WRS building regulations then come into force.
That web site looks official though (if that's really who it is).
It's a group of chancers trying there luck.
    Tappy,

  14. That's the 'proper' Thames Water address at the bottom.

As others have already said, send a copy to Thames Water and await their reply. I'm sure they'll be very interested in another company using their headings on "official" looking letters.

    i got exactly this.

was addressed to the occupier which made me question. Then I compared the property number/ID. This is how they catch people out. Even I questioned until I re read numerous times.
If it sounds too good to be true. It is!
