    Hi all,

    Couple of questions I have:

    1. Almost ready to tile small-ish kitchen floor, half of which has some cheap thin 'wood effect' vinyl square 'tiles' that are a git to get up - can I tile straight over these? I've uploaded a video of what they are here, which should explain all: https://vid.me/5oEg4 (I was actually going to ask on facebook amongst my friends before this better idea of asking here, so excuse the mild swearing and 'talk to me' at the end lol)

    2. Which adhesive to use? I'll be putting down porcelain tiles 330mmx330mm... will one adhesive be ok for both the concrete & plastic **** assuming I can lay over the plastic ****, or will I need 2 different types, and/or some kind of primer like bal bond or something?

Absolute novice as may already be obvious lol, so dumb it down to idiot-diyer level if you can ;)

    Many thanks in advance :)

could still use advice on which adhesive to use for porcelain onto concrete... won't be using as grout, and prefer ready to use if possible. Any bal bond or similar needed?

We've just had the same kind of problem, use a heat gun and a quality paper scraper. That worked for us.

Use a bagged flexible adhesive and minimum 10mm notch trowel. You'll need to prime the floor first with either a specialised tile primer or SBR. The primer is important, so don't forget :)

ty mate - will bal bond be ok? I actually have 2 litres of it. Instructions on the back are a bit meh for a thicko like me though, what's the idiots guide to using it?

If the underlying floor is wood, not concrete, you need to make sure you use a flexible adhesive and grout when putting down yout new tiles.
If you don't then any movement in the underlying wood will likely result in cracking of the tiles or grout.

    Good luck,

    Regards,
    Cando

Apologies BellJoy, I’ve linked to the wrong product, hadn’t noticed your using porcelain tiles - always follow manufacturers guidelines :)

Mapei do produce a couple of adhesives for porcelain, ‘Keraquick’ or something like that is one. As in the name, it’s a fast setting ady so, unless tiling day in and out, mix smaller quantities to work with
