Double checking.

I've got a job for the next couple of days plumbing in some free standing units for a new cooking show.

From the strainer waste 9411K I need to drain straight into a jerry can, no trap, and I was planning on using flexible waste pipe 27334 with the compression end attaching to the waste and the pushfit end going into the jerry can.

Screwfix have assured me it will fit and I have ordered them but I just wanted to check with some more knowledgeable folk before I turn up at the studio tomorrow.

If I have to fit a trap or a converter it's not the end of the world but space is tight and there are 10 units to do.

    What do you think?

Won't work, strainer waste 9411K, has threaded outlet designed to take the thread of a waste trap, not a compression fitting.

You need a McAlpine T22L this would screw onto sink outlet, plain end ( pretty sure it fits compression, haven't got one to see) goes into your compression fitting flexible waste pipe 27334.

According McAlpine cat, looking at technical drawing, the plain end is 44mm diameter, so should fit into compression fitting.

Could have used Mcalpine Flexcon 2, Screwfix 43713, instead of 27334.

Are these 10 units in a continous line.

Which is why I phoned them up to check!

Cheers Kiab, I'm there till Friday so I'll send the others back and re-order. That will screw straight on to the waste will it?

It has a BSP thread, so pretty sure it will, haven't got one here to try, most plumber merchants should have them, maybe a good builder merchant, where you can try one with the waste outlet.

With you flex connector make sure it with fit in the jerry can, again it's about 44mm diameter.

Look at T5M 90 degree bend with loose BSP nut & multifit connector might be better suited.

I'm going to be in Pinewood studios so you're kind of stuck on site, ordering in or sending clueless runners out for stuff.

The mouth on the jerry can is 60/70 mm so that's fine.

The reviews say it fits a bath and a shower waste, are they the same size?

All this stuff is usually fitted before it gets to me but on the last show they used Ikea wastes which caused all sorts of problems so they've chucked it at me this time.

Water going in is pumped out of another jerry can, through a Quooker and then into their special tap hence space being tight.

  6. Baths, showers and sinks should all be the same - the 1 1/2" size (like the McAlpine T22L KIAB linked to). They also tend to mention '40mm' - which is the pipe size that goes with 1 1/2" fittings.

(Only basins tend to be narrower 1 1/4")

Do you want to be able to get all the bits from one source, like SF?

DA beat me to it. As he says. I know you're not having a trap but you will still need to fit the overflow which comes with the strainer waste 9411k or you will have waste water going everywhere. Good luck with it.

The waste has already been ordered by the Production Manager and hopefully fitted.

I'm just doing the water from a jerry can to the Quooker which is simply going through a pump and then leaving a 15mm copper tail which I've ordered and going from the waste to a different jerry can which is causing me problems because there is no trap.

I just need to get 10 of whatever from wherever to site by Thursday hopefully.

The thing Kiab linked to looks like it will do the job so fingers crossed, I wouldn't want to disappoint the sainted Mary.

That looks like it fits to the waste so should be OK.

  10. One way - the nifty KIAB way - to tackle this, getting all the parts from our hosts would be to use extending P traps ( https://www.screwfix.com/p/mcalpine...lar-p-trap-white-40mm/46577?_requestid=464971 ) and to chuck away most of the trap - keep just the extending bit that screws on to the sink waste. (There's also a Floplast at only £4: https://www.screwfix.com/p/floplast-telescopic-p-trap-white-40mm/28038 )

Then use the flexible connector that KIAB linked to: https://www.screwfix.com/p/mcalpine-flexcon2-flexible-connector-white-40-x/43713?_requestid=430829

One thing to consider - the bottom of a normal sink is around 700mm off the floor, so by the time you add that extending piece and flexi, is there room for the Jerry can? (I think yes).

But another solution is to use these to connect to the sink waste (I'm 97.35% certain it'll fit): https://www.screwfix.com/p/mcalpine-flexcon2-flexible-connector-white-40-x/43713?_requestid=430829 and then get a length of W/M waste hose ( https://www.screwfix.com/p/washing-machine-drain-hose-2-5m-x-21mm/71062?_requestid=466978 ) and cut them to the lengths required and slip them on.

  11. Good point!

That sink waste has a side opening for the included overflow waste flexi. Sometimes these come with blanking caps should the overflow not be required, but I'll bet on the chances in your case...

Do you have the facilities to make up blanking discs from a waterproof material on site? They'll be summat around 20+mm dia.

(In theory you could instead connect the overflow waster flexi, and then make sure the open end of the pipe is kept high - right under the worktop. That should do it... )

Your second option is the one Kiab mentioned in #2 and is the one I'm going for. :p:p

The sink is normal s/s sink with a overflow, my only problem was a flexible pipe that fitted to the waste.

Pinewood is just 10 minutes from SF in Uxbridge - and they say there most frequent customers are from Pinewood! So if you are stuck and know what you need it really is quick and they are open from 6 AM to 10 PM.
