What's best make for led lamps, had GLS LED (BC) lamps about eight years in fittings here, a couple have started playing up,flickering, also looking for LED globe (BC) lamp.
Is there a best? Given that most, including the premium brands, are made in China then there is a chance that they may all be from the same block of factories or use the same producer of base LEDs. I installed some LED fittings - costly, from GreenLighting, around 10 years ago. They are on for 6 to 8 hours per day or 2500 to 3000 per year and they are still going without any problems. I also have some LAP installed - needed something cheap, quickly, and again after two years, still going. Just get ones with a two year guarantee.
After too many failures of the unknowns, I've homed in on Philips and Osram. After about 5 years since I started using them exclusively, I haven't been disappointed with either of them yet.
Been looking at Sylvania, Osram & Philips lamps Got a high stairwell to light, thought about GU10 lighting to replace current BC fitting. Looked at 12w led BC lamp, but wondering if it will give enough light output.
I’ve tried several brands over last few years in my own house as made the switch to totally LED Cheeky I know but tended to purchase led lamps that were packaged in such a way that I could possibly ‘try’ them at home for a week or so, look at light output, colour, how well they dimmed, etc If I didn’t like what I saw, I could pop em back in their box and return to store, ‘sorry, just surplus to requirements, refund please’ So I avoided any in blister packs which you have to destroy to get the item out. Difficult to return when you simply don’t like the lamp Not very scientific I realise but simply by reading the lamp specs, you cant tell what they’re gonna be like - you need to try them I’ve settled for Integral Lamps (T Stn), available in all the usual sizes, colours, dimmable, etc. Come down in price over the last couple of years Their GU10s, glass, cool white are stunning. Also very pleased with their dimmable candles and have several other types around the house, all Integral brand Give them a try maybe (3 year guarantee I believe)
Integral are fairly new to the lamp market but have been around in Semiconductors for a long time - primarily in memory. Overall their quality is excellent, but I have yet to try their lamps in large numbers.
Why recommend everyone else to buy the carp from led hut, then ask for a recommendation on what lamps to buy?
Perhaps KIAB has now realised the carp from LED hut is, well, carp. Got LED Hut GU10 lamps here on his recommendation and actually they seem fine, except they buzz when dimmed. But I don't dim them, so all's good. If or when they start to go then will look into other makes. Integral equivalents from TS are £3.40 each (just spotted that 7w aren't available albeit listed) , much the same price as LEDHut I think so worth a shot.
When I first got lamps from LED Hut,about 5-6 years ago, they were good, no buzzing, etc, good bright white light, no complaints, but the latest ones, sadly ain't a patch on the older ones for quailty. Happen to have a new LED Hut GU10 dimable lamp here & it buzzes/hums, not impressed.
Going to order a few B22 & GU10 lamps from here: http://theledspecialist.co.uk/ Can alway put them in workshop light fittings if things don't work out.
I bought some GU10 warm white 6 watt LumiLife led lamps maybe what 18 months ago or thereabouts. One word to describe them - faultless. (I believe Mr K recommended these, and I think I got them from Led Hut) 4 in the upstairs shower room, and 4 in my daughters bedroom - light quality is excellent, with none of that horrible blue tinge evident.
I mneed a globe of around 2000 lumens to replace a 150 Incandescant. Ikea were teh only supplier wo could do an LED at the right level - it is again doing OK.
I always used the LAP dimmable downlights from Screwfix, they aren't the brightest and the warm white is a bit too orange for my liking but they dimmed absolutely perfect with a standard dimmer no matter if you had one or 20 on the circuit. But the latest ones we got flickered like a *****, so its either the dimmers we use that have changed or more likely the downlights are missing a component or two in the quest for cheapness.
I also got caught out buying Philips bulbs as I thought they would be good quality, learnt from error now buy cheapest I can find.
