    Hi,
I have some high gloss end panels which will need cutting to size. To avoid moisture entering the cut edges and delamination, do you thing that just edgebanding would be sufficient?
    Thanks

Will the cut edges be in contact with moisture.

Exterior pva 2 coats is best.

But far better is to not let end panels, plinths etc get anywhere near mosisture. Keep the mop well away.

I am referring to the moisture that is generated in the kitchen boiling pans etc

    Which edge, bottom, back, top?

Will be cutting to width and height, the top will be more exposed than the back edge

Are you talking the bottom edges of wall unit end panels?

Or the back edges against the walls?

Yes, wall units end panels. The cut edges will be the back edge and top

End panels for wall units either side of hob (sounds like to me) ?

Use factory finished edge at the bottom and fit edge tape to uppermost cut

If these are either side of hob, always have extractor fan switched on when using the hob

But may be base unit panels against floor ?
Plinth seal strip or silicone bead

    Hey Spike .......

Is it a state secret where these end panels are being fitted ??

Uv got peeps asking the location of these panels ....... this may decide on the way forward to seal the raw cut edge

Always include plenty of info, helps others to give informed advice :)

If it is a state secret ........ I apologise and will stop asking immediately

No secret, they are the side panels for wall units, six in total, two over the job. They need to be reduced in width an height. As mentioned earlier, the cut edges will be up to the wall and at the top.

    I genuinely wouldnt worry.

If you are and want peace of mind then just brush a bit of exterior PVA on the edges.

I bought some MDF primer/sealer from TS for my bathroom panels, cost about £5 I think.

Bead of silicon wiped over the edges will be fine as would the PVA previously mentioned.

I am going to disagree slightly here.

I used to smear silicone over cut edges like on a sink cut out and on end panels

I tend to find that silicone tends to cause moisture to build up and can cause mould to appear quicker.

Seems sometimes like the silcone is a magnet for moisture!

If anything the silicone works too well as it traps absolutely everything.

FInd the pva tend to work more effectively and lasts longer.

But it may have been the type of silicone I was generally using or the way I applied it!

Never had that problem that I am honestly aware of but I will 'keep em peeled' :(, thing is keeping it simple.

Unless the floor is perfectly level. The only 'square' formed is with the work top and cabinet so usually cut/scribe to the floor.
