Seems to have got access through my garage roller door and into the other partition of my detached garage. I leave roller door open quite a bit which i won't be doing in future plus all the copper pipes are going through ceiling giving plenty of access that will be blocking up.... But seems to be gappy under roller door even when closed, any way to combat this.... I think it is a mouse as its small but looks like a rats tail...
Not the best photo, as I am at full zoom on iPhone but can someone tell me if I have a large mouse or small rat in my garden. It normally eats the bird seed that has fallen down from the bird feeder. It watched us from the undergrowth (see picture) when we chased it away - midday. No droppings around. Going by ear size, it seems like a rat? Thanks
Look at the size of the droppings, mice are the size of rice grains, rats are much bigger, about 8 to 10mm long and 6mm dia, not that I have used the Vernier to measure them Rats also urinate constantly, you cannot fail to notice the smell.
No droppings about. Apparently rats do their droppings in one place - hidden away. Whereas mice **** all over the place.
A couple of weeks ago there was a thread about the best mice bait &traps, I’ll tell Yer again, can’t beat a ball bearing mouse trap, better known as a Tom cat
Photo update! We cut back the undergrowth now he seems to be getting tamer! I was able to walk up to about 6ft way from him and take these pics! The baitbox which is less than a foot away from him is having no effect!
Brown rats are very bold,that is only a tiddler,wait until you meet a 11" -12" rat,thats without a tail.
Neighbours chicken run was getting them at that size until I slowly picked them off. Managed to shoot three in under 30 seconds one day and the neighbour standing 20metre away did not know until I called him to remove the bodies for burning. And if there is one, there will be another somewhere and soon after another ten ...
