Hi, tried this on builder’s talk, no replies so thought I’d try it here. A question from a newby. Floor under the fridge v uneven. If I use self levelling screed will it: A. stick to wooden baton? B. Set if one area is about 3-4cms deep? I only want to cover about 1sq m Thanks.
Beer mats aside, a few shims of ply screwed down to allow the feet to be adjusted Or, screw 6mm tile backer board down (need to stick it with adhesive too) then self level over that after creating a dam around the perimeter.
I’ve only used Mapei Self Leveler myself, it’s a nice drop of gear Max pour depth in one hit is 25mm but, no problem adding additional layers after allowing each layer to cure When you ask will it stick to wooden batten, do you mean floorboards ? As fridge is going over this section it doesn’t really matter if it sticks or not, it won’t be going anywhere If you was then laying laminate over leveller, then yep, you want it well bonded so additional prep Need to plug any holes or gaps between floorboards / batten (?) before you pour otherwise you will loose the mix, it goes down pretty runny Can use a no nails type gun adhesive or spray foam to fill gaps and holes As above suggestions, can always level floor with say a 25mm pour then make up finished height with timber, cement board, etc
Why risk it delaminating from floorboards then fudge about putting cement board on top? Cement board then leveler on top is the correct way. A confident delivery Dave, but content is s***e
How’s the SL gonna delaminate when there’s a fridge plonked on top of it ? Surely weight and gravity will keep it in place ? Can always SBR floor 1st to ensure a good bond If floor is that wonky, (OP has said ‘very uneven’) you place cement board over floor then self leveller, your gonna have voids under cement boards and possibly some rock n rollin Several ways to do most jobs, yeah some right, some wrong, some just personal preference Thanks for the good and bad feedback though, great to hear there’s some postitives to my post
As I said, you put adhesive under cement board before screwing it down. What happens when the fridge is removed? Either way, it was a brave attempt Dave
So why is it recomended when using Hardie Boards (as an example), over uneven floorboards, that you lay a thin bed of tile adhesive over floorboards before placing Hardie Boards ? Takes up any unevenness in floorboards and gives the Hardie Board a solid, level base to sit on with no voids - perhaps ? So if OPs floor is very uneven, why mess with blobs of grip fill to try and fix/level cement board before laying self leveler Why risk having a void under cement board and SL just where a fridge foot is gonna land Anyway, whatever, we all have differant ways, as long as a good result, who give a flying f uck
Is it the time of month Dave? Go back and read my first post. Check the 'brackets'. Hot weather and Gin is a good/bad combo!
I get on with most people Womble. I'm actually quite quiet and sensitive. I'm the first to admit, that I don't know it all, and I also have a belief system! I also have an ego, and I will exercise it when I believe necessary!
