Apart from cosmetic look, which is terrible, that edging band is gonna allow water to get into worktop and cause it to blow after a while Some months down the line, the ‘butcher’ will have even less interest in putting things right so needs to be dealt with ASAP It’s not stuck on properly, chipped and scuffed, badly joined, and picture 3 shows a chip to top surface of worktop, etc He probably could have got away with that chip (if that was his only lash up) with a blob of colorfill Have you paid for this job, either full or part payment ?
Don’t think anybody would class Checkatrade as an authority Any half skilled joiner should be able to spin that curve with trammels and a router and if it’s not a “true curve” then template it with a jigsaw and compass plane
Most of the major worktop suppliers will cut/trim worktops to your specification of required and at very little extra cost and they will be fully sealed and smooth.
True. Thing is though, there is is no "industry" standard for radius's which can be a right pita. In my experience though, most radius's are exactly the same as the Howdens radius jig. It's dirt cheap and has the run in for straight edged to post formed, so a win win all round. Obviously the OP's "Joiner" knew nothing about this. But as you, and i said said earlier, the whole job is complete rubbish. I'm fairly certain my cats have been with me long enough that even they would have done a better job.....................as long as they had Salmon for breckie
I have the jig, but I did see a guy use a curved shelf to do a worktop radius...with varying results!
There are many things I don't do anymore. Some have always been beyond my skill. I suspect even b&q are realising that such things need a specialist. Deal somehow with hapless fitter, but arrange for a new worktop to be cut by a specialist.
No got him off my builder.com, 100% positive reviews (until now). Rest of the job was just replacement doors with a fit out of a small kitchen in utility area. That was all decent enough. Took his time though, big time
THAT edging is shocking.. Ok I agree doing a curve isn't easy ( the edging bit ) the cutting is fairly simple with template and router jig. But that edging is shameful just hope u havnt settled the bill as dont think he will return.. If he used a router he could skim the trim and 2 mil off then re do the edging
I have had a similar request. I saw the Howdens jig (around £100) but the worktop in question is not square edged but is post formed(half round). Would this jig give an acceptable finish?
