hi all Can anyone help please? Recently purchased two new toilets to fit from b and q (as the mrs liked them!). In the pan inlet there are two pieces of plastic (see photos). Question is do i remove them before fitting or do they have a specific job? Plumber mate never seen anything like them before, and neither had the plumb specialist at b and q. Any help much appreciated Thanks Dave
Remove them, they are just blank offs to stop crud getting in the rim of bowl. Think it's to do with their Clean On system getting extra water around the rim when flushing.
When fitting make sure you silicone the rubber ring top and bottom before fitting cistern otherwise it will leak when flushed.
DIYfearny, does the installation instructions mention removing them ? From the photo they look at plastic diving tubes to supply measured water to both sides of the rim, could be wrong thou . fit the toilet and see how it flushes
I really hate it when I have to work on something where someone had so little trust in a gasket that they 'helped' it along with silicone. IT IS NOT NECESSARY and just makes life a whole lot harder for the poor person who has to deal with it the next time the system needs some attention.
On these cheap toilets that are cast as units and not pairs, silicone is a must, 9 out of 10 will leak when flushed, the o-rings are so far out its comical that they are sold as a sealing ring at all.
Push them fully home and pour a bucket of water down where the cistern will fit, if water flows nicely around the pan then leave them in. As above does it mention them in the instructions?
Thanks all No fitting instructions - as one of you said - cheaper toilets!!!! Ill try the bucket of water jobby and if all looks good ill leave them in and see what happens
