Why do some people show no respect to those in the public eye - predominantly politicians - by failing to use their title or indeed their first name if that's how they are commonly known?

Surely it's Mr or Jeremy Corbyn, Mrs or Teresa May, Donald or President Trump and as for BoJo?

We're not treated like that in our daily lives (well not since I left school anyway) so why is it acceptable for others?

It's part of the sea-change in populist thinking.

The electorate haven't been used to actually having a 'say' in constitutional matters and they're now orgasming on it with the belief they have a reasoned and valid opinion. The EU Ref gave them an opportunity to change things, and many cannot see past this 'success'.

Hand-in-hand with this somewhat politically ignorant side of the electorate comes another 'belief' - that the folk who lead us are lying, cheating scurrilous cheats; "drain the swamp!". It is writ large on this very forum - how many times have you read things like "snouts in the trough', 'only out for themselves', 'My opinion is - A political career is a dirty game and some of the unwritten rules of the game is you avoid the truth if you have to', and dozens more in a similar - and usually much stronger - vein.

You know what I'm going to say next, don't you?

YES! These sorts of cynical comments come almost exclusively (perhaps completely exclusively?) from Leavers!

Yup - another truism. What are they like!

I know that I also diss' some MPs on here, but I wouldn't call Mr Johnson 'Bo' to his face. I'd call him a lying copper-bottomed hypocrite.

Didn't take long to get to brexit , I like to call anyone older than me " sir " or " madame" on an informal meeting , but don't like it if someone calls me sir in a shop or restaurant as I feel they are forced

I think the rot set in years ago when a local primary school had a policy of the teachers being called by their Christian names, just as one example.

Just once, I'd like to be called "Sir" without it being followed by "you're causing a scene".

Allsorts - Hemel Hempstead in the 70's. Parents complained but it stuck and yes before you mention it I think parents have an equal or greater duty to teach their kids manners than a school!! I do think, slightly off topic that things have become totally warped now where you hear f-ing and blinding every day on the street and tv which I believe can be equally offensive to some people as a mild remark immediately deemed racist

    Oh come off it, Ramsey!

You are saying the rot set in based on a single primary school in H Hemp? (I remember visiting a colleague after we qualified, and he was teaching at a Private school - an 'International' type. My jaw dropped when I found all the pupils addressing him by his first name - it was well weird.

Yes, of course parents have the biggest duty to teach manners; teachers can only back up and reinforce what is already in place.

Soz - effing and blinding was always on the streets - I very much doubt it is more so now. Haven't you heard? - kids these days are more thoughtful, considerate, moral, polite, and - yes - brighter than those of previous generations?

Celebrate - we are getting better.

(Until a recent ref set us back a generation or two...)

You clearly haven't looked at the GCSE syllabus recently - you wouldn't have a chance, pal.

As for current kids being better in all respects than their predecessors, try a couple of things IIR - one, get involved - you'd be amazed, and 2 read some factual stats and info - you'd be disappointed.

Why do you say such stuff, IIR? I mean, really, why do you say such stuff? Why aren't you interested in facts?

Yes, after a continual decline in all criminal behaviour and an improvement in our moral standing, there are some criminal acts which are now seeing a tragic increase again.

The main cause, tho', is as obvious as an obvious thing - austerity. That has lead to increased poverty, more societal division, fewer police on t'street, a catastrophic drop in social services and other dispensable activities in this new great Trumpian world of yours.

What else? Yes, of course, the Brexit vote - which is deepening and prolonging austerity.

So what I'm sayin', pal, is you and your fellow rednecks helped cause it.

    Ironic, huh?

I am and kids today are far ruder than they've ever been in my life time.
They expect every thing on a plate as if its some sort of right. They don't want to go out and work their way up, they expect to be given high ranking jobs because they have a degree in Sports science, beauty therapy or some other totally pointless subject.
All brought on by a certain cretin named Bliar forcing kids into uni for no other reason then to bring down unemployment/dole figures.

There has never been a decline in crime in my lifetime, there has however in more recent times been a decline in 'recorded' crime, when, eventually, the powers that be ran out of different ways of 'recording' crime that showed there was no longer any crime, and we were living in a crime free socialist nirvana*, the true figures started to emerge, crime has gone through the roof, nothing to do with austerity, nothing to do with Brexit.

*Nirvana, good group, and I did like Kurt Cobain. I once said to him, "don't mess around with guns mate", did he listen?, no, it went in one ear and out the other.
