That is a damn good point. I am beginning to suspect my source has somehow got hold of the wrong end of the stick, or something. If anyone has any further info I would love to read it. Thanks anyway gentlemen.

As I've mentioned earlier to be aware of
1- every single stationary machinery has to have NVR (push button off switch) and so aparently for 30 years.
2- every single handheld power tool in 230v has to be connected via RCD

If somebody got told to fit whole workshop power cut off, that might be requirement to the particular workshop, as I'm not aware for such regulation being introduced... I've spoken to H&S exec only few months ago, however, it might be the case... Just not talked about, even machinery in particular workshop (some) is trully old, missing perspec guards etc...

To clarify for sure, I'd recommend calling H&S execs office and asking

Having re-thought this ........it was a requirement on each individual machine tool.

On the Internet, flamebait is a "posting" or note on a Web site discussion forum, an online bulletin board, a Usenet newsgroup, or other public forum that is intended to elicit the extremely strong responses characteristic of flaming and active public discussions.

    PhilSo (Vernacularicous
)Internet slang originated in the early days of the Internet with some terms predating the Internet. Internet slang is used in chat rooms, social networking services, online games, video games and in the online community. Since 1979, users of communications networks like Usenet created their own shorthand.

At least, that's what Alphabet says.

I'm no youngster, so I'll guess.

"Spit on the floor and slide under the door."

    A Lowlife ?

Am I close to being correct?

Sole traders aren't covered by any Health and Safety.

The workshop that I know that had a cut out of all socket power was able to be accessed by untrained people and the cut out was lockable, as you left at night you hit the stop.

Nope, not a youngster either, but it means derailing the topic

Our insurance policies are making the mark on sole trader practices.
Long winded discussion about industry and workshops, sole trader or employee status etc, in short, anyone allowing anyone to work on "his" permises end up being responsible for everything, including safety

Not even sure then that there is any enforcement action that can be taken.

As a sole trader you can take any guards off that you want.

Plus smoke on the premises if you want to etc etc

Not advocating that people should, just pointing out the facts.

In mine I just turn the main big handle on the board before I go home for the night.

Cuts everything off. Feels safer to do that fire wise in case a charger malfunctions etc. Only issue it causes is that the little fridge in the office/storeroom goes off. But usually its only skimmed milk in there and that's ok overnight.

That would be why as a sole trader I don't let anyone else work there.

This was so that nobody could use the tools.
I worked in one place where the owner would pull every plug, switch off every socket and disconnect every air line and then trip the main, what a pain in the morning.
