I've been a carpenter for 12 years but finally got myself some carpenters pencils and a sharpener in a set from Travis today for £6. I can't get the pencils to sharpen properly. I have to use so much effort to get the bloody thing to even sharpen a minute bit. Am I being a absolute idiot or no? I look forward to the replies. Go easy on me
Only bought them as they were cheap. Think the sharpener will be binned and go back to the Stanley knife
Cheap @ £6. Those Red pencils and Sharpener look like pound shop specials. Only use Blackedge and a craft knife to sharpen here.
Whats all this about sharpening pencils. I just take pocketfulls of the screwfix ones and chuck them when they are blunt
They often have similiar sets in Aldi for around £2 - 6 pencils and a sharpener. Bright yellow so easy to find and the sharpener does work to a degree but, often need to shave a bit more pencil with Stanley as it doesn’t sharpen evenly Sharpener also has an abrasive strip on one side if you need a finer point They’re ok for rough work but the lead (yeah know it’s not actually lead anymore) is 3/4 mm thick so if not trimmed, you get a thick line which could throw off your accuracy if you cut on wrong side of mark Can’t beat a Screwfix pencil or a dozen even better
I have one of those pencil sharpeners. I don't use it for pencils, but for sticks of French chalk...Brilliant for writing/marking on surfaces such as brickwork or steel plate.
The screwfix pencils are better than the IKEA pencils. Although when we shop my Mrs ends up with a few dozen in her handbag
