I don't melt it down and cast an ingot. I just fill the box up with loose bits of lead and take it down the scrapyard. It weighs about the same as a bag of cement. You might be right though. Maybe I can lift 10 bags of cement at the same time.
It is Smith's in Syston. I've just called in. £2.50/kg for taps etc and £3.00/kg for for copper tube. I've no idea how that compares... Hope this helps.
Certainly not rip-off prices but better are available. Its generally speaking better not to sell non-ferrous stuff in December or January as the prices are always lower. I last weighed in in Nov. I think I got £3 odd for brass. About £3.80 for copper. £1 for lead and about £0.75 for ally and stainless.
