One tool I won't use a cheap version of is an angle grinder. I had cheap ones in the past, one burst into flames in my hands, no smoke straight to flames and it burnt for 20 mins afterwards. The second one, locked up whilst cutting, ripping the machine out of hands and shattering the disk which cut a three inch cut across my scalp. So I have DeWalt cordless 18v and FlexVolt an AEG 9 inch and Bosch 9 inch. The Bosch works out quite a cheap option as it comes with 2 diamond blades (£26 each) and a quick fit collar as well as the conventional one.
all good advice cant add to it however a cheaper brand does kick like a mule and you need to know how a grinder handles been using them for 40 yrs on 1" to 48" pipes stone slabs etc a hand grider can be so smooth now you do not know its turned of as a good 9" as for a cheap9" be carful and spend time practicing a good blade is the answer dimond sorry about the spelling the vodkas kicking inoops
You don't need to cut right though the slabs: pro slab layers don't. Cut half way though from top with your existing grinder, turn over and tap along line with bolster. Less noise less dust: simples!! A 9" grinder is a heavy scary bit of kit!!
No, but I don't notice the lack of soft start,it's very controllable, compared to the Bosch which has a torque kick as I call it, on start up. Find a good tool shop who stock Hitachi,go & have a look, might be able to try it without a blade to get some idea of how it feels. https://www.lawson-his.co.uk/makita...4AIVCs-yCh1oAQetEAkYASABEgImRPD_BwE#161=11618
What I have noticed with the Bosch is that it is so powerful that the disk acts like a propeller and pulls huge amounts of air through. It cuts really well though
I've always used metabo angle grinders. They have overload protection so its difficult to burn them out . And have automatic shut down if the blade is snagged.
Ok, the Titan is a tenner more than the Hitachi and doesn’t have such a pedigree name behind it..... But, the Titan; Has more watts Has a carry case Has soft start (Which the Hitachi doesn’t) Like buying anything really, a little research then gut feeling and make a decision
The Hitachi does come with a case and is soft start, i own one. Granted the Titan is more watts, but I can guarantee the motor will not be a patch on the Hitachi, and the switch will not be dust protected like the Hitachi is, that's what makes them superior over every other grinder I've ever owned and I've owned many over the years. Don't get me wrong, Titan are good, i have the 5kg drill and love it for what it is, but pound for pound Hitachi make the best grinders.
Watts isn't everything! Out of all of my 9" grinders, Hitachi is first to get used, & I stand corrected about soft start.
Metabo is the best angle grinder I was advised, so I bought the 9” mains powered one probably 15 years ago. Actually not expensive and mine is made in Germany. I would consider blue Bosch grinder as a second option
I must admit, a small cordless angle grinder (must be top quality) is an extremely useful tool. And no risk of electrocution. I also have cordless Hilti 22volt angle grinder and it is brilliant. But it costs a few hundred just for bare tool.
