Double Glazing Installation : How can I tell which side is laminated?

I am having double glazing installed this week. They started upstairs with regular glass and are completing downstairs tomorrow. All the sealed units have been left with me overnight.

I specified laminated glass downstairs and the units are marked as 6.8mm laminated /4mm toughened. How can I tell which side is the laminated side? I just want to make sure that they install them the right way around tomorrow (laminated on the outside).

    Many thanks.

Assume you can tell at the moment so put a sticker on the thinner side , usually come with cushioned stickers on the inside

Is that the only way to tell? I was trying to look edge on and see which piece of glass was thicker but can't really make it out.

Toughened glass will have a kitemark printed on the glass, usually in the corner.

Also if you look at toughened at a shallow angle is it not rippled ????

Just looked at one of the units which is labelled laminated/toughened and both sides have a kitemark in a corner. So the laminated side has the kitemark too.

I'm not too sure, but see that laminated offer better impact resistance to toughened glass.

All I can think of is there will be numbers alongside the kitemark, are they the same or different?

Its a while since i used some laminated glass, but remember when at the glaziers they would score one side and use methalated spirits to melt away the inner core. when they made the next cut, they may not line up exactly and can feel the difference, but factory methods may be different.

May be able to feel the thicker (laminated) glass under the tape.

Why not just leave the installers to get on with their jobs?

Thanks - you nailed it. One of the kitemarks has "LAMINATED BS EN 14449" text around it in a circle and the other has "BS EN 12150"

    14449 - laminated glass spec
    12150 - toughend glass spec

@DIY womble The label is on the outside of this particular unit.

I'll have another look tomorrow in the daylight but I cannot see rippling right now.

It you tap the toughened side with ceramic it will explode.

If you drop it both sides will smash, one into small pieces and the other into dagger like shards.

I does but breaks into spikes although with a fair chance of staying held together.
