    Hi
I hope someone can help me please.
I bought a plug for my sink which is 1 1/4" (32mm) I don't even know what this means but I've since bought 2 white Flexi waste pipes and neither of them fit! I really need to know the exact pipe to buy cos I'm just wasting money now!
So the ones I bought that were wrong were 32mm 1/4" and 40mm 1/2"

    I'm so confused! Thankyou

  2. Can you provide a picture of your sink, it will help see what you need ?

    Hi, Thanks for your reply.
I've got the sink and the plug fits...its just I can't seem to find a white Flexi pipe that attaches to the bottom of the plug.

  4. That's not much help, there's a lot of different connections and sizes, from what I gather your sink plug ( waste ) is 1 1/4, is the end male or female, as in a bare thread, a threaded ring or plain ? a pic would save a thousand words.

That's why @Tuxornot asked for a picture - so that we can tell you where to find what you want. Ideally a picture of underneath the sink and keep the size below 2Mb.

The word you're looking for is basket strainer. The plug is only the part that goes into the top. You have also not said if this is a kitchen or bathroom sink which will help!
MacAlpine do all sorts of kits that attach to the threaded underside of the sink. The ABS white plastic pipe you have bought will interface with one of these kits.

Sadly we cannot see what your pipe would need to connect to but chances are it's a 32mm pipe. You need a basin trap. It should come with a threaded part that will connect onto your basin outlet and the other end would have to connect to the pipe - that may require a bend or two and some pipe - subject to the bit we cannot see.

Edit. You shouldn't need a flexi anything but you do need a trap - it stops foul gases/smells from returning up the pipe. As suggested McAlpine is a good brand.

ok but I bought a 32mm (s in my original post) and it is too small it won't go on at all.

the one on the right is the 40mm 1/2" the one on the left is the 32mm 1/4" I thought as my plug is 32mm this would fit but it won't go on at all.

ok Thankyou, I need it to go straight down though, as this is not plumbed into the mains, the used water is going into a container

  15. Those flexi's you have go on pipe, there's no threaded part to connect to the metal part under your basin, the trap I linked to has the threaded part on top.

That's not worthy of you. You had the sense to ask about something you don't know the answer to.
The water will get away perfectly - gravity and physics will solve that one for you. You could use the one of the flexis to join the trap to the pipe (if it's long enough) - female end into the end of the trap and male end onto the pipe (if it's not solvent weld pipe) but it's a poor solution really.

Actually there is but they're expensive and more for specialist solutions. A trap as suggested by @Tuxornot above is what you need.
