Hi all,ok new here and looking for some advice.

Just moved to a new property (was built 17 years ago) Now after a day here am finding noggles. First niggle is the cold water has an eggy pungent smell, espicially first thing in the morning.
Its from the same water company that we were with before, the property was unoccupied for six months but the water was turned off.

    Any ideas ?

    Thanks in advance.

Hi thanks for replying, done that yesterday & water was good enough to drink with no eggy smell or taste :)

First use this morning the eggy smell & taste is back with a vengence, even runa bath full of cold water and its still eggy but only eggy from the kitchen sink mixer tap :(

The tap spout had some dirt in the gauze end filter and the water is mains fed,its all mains fed with a combo gas boiler. Have asked neighbour about their water and their's is ok,they say.

    Any more ideas ?

Sounds like you have narrowed it down to the kitchen tap, why it's eggy I don't know.

    More ideas:

dead leg on the pipe work up to the kitchen tap.

appliance Back flowing into the pipe work close to the kitchen tap? Got a washing machine / dishwasher /water filter piped up there?

Ask the water supply company to investigate, they will investigate what they can see & test:( its just to ensure your water is safe.

or get a proper plumber to investigate, who knows the quality of what is installed every property is different :) some are mucked around with diyers.

Thanks for the responses, got a new mixer tap and asked a local plumber to fit it. He visited yesterday and found contaminated water was an issue due to where the integerated washing machine & dish washer were fed from.
was not there myself but other half said plumber fitted a one way valve on a branch and now the water is not eggy and tastes fine :).

Plumber refused to fit the new mixer tap as he said it is very poor quality and the existing is Ok.

    thanks for all your assistance.

See if you can get a bacon tap extension. Be a nice combo then!
