Agh, no after. That are doesn’t look the best but the rest of the wall does. The bricks are quite uneven.
I’m starting to worry why the mortar wasn’t put all the way to the end of the bricks?

Do you want a flush joint? They look recessed in places.
Before starting a repointing job I would always check the style of joints required.
Lime pointing is often finished flush with the churn brush.

Neither did the kids who did it, the pointing looks as if it’s had several decades of weather on it already

Joints can be recessed, but on a solid wall like yours a flush or weather struck is preferred, as the recess allows a ledge for moisture to sit.

Big fan of recessed joints for feature work, but with lime mortar, sort of defeats the purpose of repointing

Yes, brickwork can look really good with them. You do need the right bricks(and bricklayers) for them.
The ones in the photo don't look right, as some look full, others recessed a bit, ones been jointed. Think he should have gone for a flush joint. Trouble with the churn brush, when people wack the brickwork too early it can put lime stains over the brickwork. The brush should always be clean and if it isn't leave the joints for longer.
I'm doing a lime pointing job at the moment but as it's Chert stone it does not matter too much if the pointing is still a bit wet.

Why would he do it the way he has. The wall looks dirty all over. I’m guessing rain won’t help it?

Another bad job for me :( I thought it was ok until I noticed other repointed walls.
