Hello Screwfix community, we just got a new carpet fitted. Without asking, the carpet fitter trimmed two doors. He says it is perfect. At 2,5cm in my front door and 2cm in the internal door, I think he overdid it, and now we need to fix the doors. What does the Screwfix community think? Huge door gap YES (it is too big, bad job, needs to be fixed) or Huge door gap NO (it is perfect at 2cm between the installed carpet and the bottom of the door). Please have your say Thanks for your help sol
I am curious as to why he trimmed the doors . Did they foul the carpets to such an extend that opening and closing was impossible ? Most fitters will not trim the doors even if there is a bit of resistance initially as the pile does snd will go down down as people start walking on it.
There was no carpet resistance before removing the old carpet and certainly after fitting the new one! He cut the doors before installing the new carpet...
According to the fitter, the floor is slanted... Three years living in the property and I had never noticed... I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on that one since it is a victorian flat.
Cut before he installed ! That tells you all you need to know about his carpentry skills ! Ask for new doors !
Thanks for the tip. The gap is reduced when the door is open, so the floor is more slanted in the door frame, though it looked a lot better before he trimmed it!
He's well and truly dropped a bullock and fracked the doors up, you allow 20mm from floor not carpet what a ****, must have got the job via the no Skill Centre.
