Hello. Looking for a bit of advice, the earth core on the cooker feed has been broken somewhere on route back to ccu maybe a screw or something, cannot locate. No continuity, live and neutral are fine. Without having full house up abc trying locate and new feed not and option what are implications on getting earth from socket next to it on the kitchen ring?

The earth is likely to be insufficient for cooker supply

How are you testing for no continuity?

Definately not, it is a seperate circuit to the cooker and if the supply cable is 6mm the earth is a 2.5mm the earth in a socket is 1.5mm even if a ring and doubled up you cannot garantee that if ever a problem on the ring circuit you could lose the adequate earth to the cooker. The only way to do this is to either locate the break which is an easy enough task for an experienced spark or to replace the supply cable in its entirety if you cannot locate the fault. It is quite rare that the break is only going to affect just the earth cable alone. You could potentialy have a problem with the live or the neutral at a later date. It is not something to ignore and especially with something that is fused at 32A, if you cannot do it, my advice is get someone in who can do it.

Replace the cooker cable, use 10mm 2 don't gripe at the cost, if you do it yourself you are saving on professional fees.

Yes agree, insulation resistance test between live and neutral is all good so hasn’t somehow damaged the neutral or live. Will look at locating break and join earth from there. I was just thinking as earth Will only carry current for very short time till rcd trips that 1.5 earth from socket ring next to switch would be sufficient in event if earth fault even though 6mm is 2,5mm..but yes not good practice thx for reply
