So I have come up with an absolute genius plan to stop my cokerals screetching early hours of the morning on a weekend which is what I wanted. I only want them waking me up Monday to Friday. So I have wired up 4 X 20 watt LED floods in their coop and outside in their run. This is being put on a dusk till dawn sensor so that it fools them in not going to sleep through the night and thus they do not realise what time it is on a weekend. Absolute genius if I may say so myself.
Keep the cockerels in the dark until you wake up and let them out. No lights, no electricity, no regulations.
Lights to fool chickens into thinking it’s not dark outside, now there’s a genius idea no one has ever had before ☀️
Just a boring bit of information - commercially hens are given a burst of light in the middle of the night which means them think the nights are shorter and they lay more prolifically since naturally they come into lay in the spring when days get longer and nights shorter.
I hope not, but here is a funny thing, I havent had one egg from them yet. I think they take time to adjust as they were rescue cockerals.
Do you think that maybe the cockerals being male, may not lay eggs, and that possibly you need some female chickens for that?
