    Replacing felt on flat roof

Does anyone have any comments on this "relatively" new flat roof material that is supposed to last a "lifetime". It's the Grey stuff often used on high profile buildings like Bluewater and Heathrow. Is it really worth the double and a bit price over conventional 3 layer hot bitumen?

Landis & Gyr instruction book needed

Does anyone know where I can get hold of a Landis & Gyr heating controller manual for an RVL45. It's the user manual I'm after to set up times etc. I've had a look around the web but can't find a pdf download anywhere. Any help much appreciated.

    New Greenstar fitted

Gents, I've just had my new Greenstar 30CDi fitted (looks great)However.....one thing i'm not sure of. If the CH is running (Green LED on) and I turn on the tap for DHW (Green LED still on) get my bowl of hot water and turn the tap off the Green LED (and thus the boiler) goes off not to...

    Including warnings in estimates.

Patrick, thanks for your comment on my recent post, so heres something in return. How about something like this. While every care is taken to provide the customer with an upgrade to a higher pressure system, it needs to be advised that these higher pressures can in some circumstances...

Gents, I have just been quoted the following. Remove old swiftflow combi and dispose. Supply and fit new Greenstar 30CDi combi, change pipework where needed. Fit thermo rad valves in one bedroom. Flush out pipework. Put in inhibitor. Price £1700 + VAT I am guessing this looks...

    Sticky residue on emulsion

Sadly not DA. This is from something far less interesting. Watching paint dry. Anyway, I washed it down with sugar soap and it now seems to be OK. Does the fact that when I originally painted this it was the dead of winter with very little heat in the room to dry it out have any bearing on...

    Sticky residue on emulsion

Gents, just about to start repainting a ceiling when I noticed one area has a greasy sticky feel to it that leaves residue on your fingers. It's very like the clear liquid you get in a tin of new paint that gets mixed in. The paint has been up about 7 to 8 years. My first thought was a leak in...

    New combi required

Thanks gents, interesting stuff. Reading some of the other posts about solar heating, I'm getting quite keen on the idea of a suitable boiler that could be fitted now and as funds allow add on additional solar kit in the future. I have very limited loft space which is why I have a combi...

    New combi required

I have come to the conclusion that my existing swiftflow combi has come to the end of it's useful economic life and have to consider replacing it. Can you suggest a good quality high efficiency condensing boiler as a replacement and an expected supply and fit cost? (reasonably easy access on...

    Electric shower timer

Gents, can anyone advise if there is a commercially available electric shower timer. I have teenagers (enough said) who spend far too long in the shower. Threats and groundings have no real effect so I wanted to fit some kind of timer. The shower is on its own MCB in a split load crabtree...

    LG Direct drive washing machine

I bought one last july and up to a couple of weeks ago.....no problems. On doing some checks to find out what the metallic clicking sound was, I have come to the conclusion that it's one of the drum bearings starting to break up. Does anyone else out there have one of these? Has anyone else had...

    planed timber dimensions

If you want timber a specific size then you need to instruct the woodyard to supply "finished size" ie 25mm. This would also cost a bit more as they are starting from larger stock.

    Asbestos - oh my gawd

How many of you, like me, have worked on your cars over the years and blown the dust out of the brakes. Asbestos was used in the brake linings. A lot of car mechanics could be in trouble over the next few years. I assume asbestos is no longer used for this. Anyone know for sure?
