    Replacement lug

You will have to find someone who stocks those back boxes, and probably purchase one, so you can remove the lug to use on your back box. Or just replace the whole box.

RCD tripping when multiple lights are on.

Is it an RCD, or RCBO?

    Wiring a fused spur

The first method, will make the FCU a part of the ring, the second will make it a spur off the ring. If I was wiring this from scratch, I’d probably go with the first method. If I was altering an existing installation, I’d probably go with the second method.

    Cooker radial circuit

Clipped direct is reference method C, which is also the reference method for cables buried directly in masonry or plaster, with or without capping. Maximum Current Carrying Capacity for 4mm2 T&E reference method C is 37A, for 6mm2 T&E, it’s 47A. Any other reference method, reduces the CCC.

    Troubleshooting both RCD tripping

The most common cause of this, is a shared or borrowed Neutral with 2 way switching. The Line conductor is taken from a downstairs lighting circuit to a 2 way light switch. Strappers are then taken upstairs to another 2 way light switch. A switch Line is then taken to an upstairs light fitting...

MUST I have a new consumer unit fitted?

In my experience, many older Council properties have either surface wiring in mini trunking or earthed conduit concealed in the walls. In my House, I have 3 circuits which don not require RCD protection, water heater, smoke alarm and solar inverter (4 if we include the SPD). For some reason, the...

MUST I have a new consumer unit fitted?

No they don’t. Domestic lighting circuits, circuits of a location contains a bath or shower, and socket-outlet circuits in Agricultural/Horticultural installations, are the only circuits that require RCD protection.

Would the ductwork now fall under the new fan and ventilation rules?

Multiple spurs from a ring main (maybe…)

If that drawing is correct? Extending the ring would be quite simple. I would connect the cable feeding the 3 switches to one leg of the ring using a connector block. I would then connect the cable going to SW4 to the other leg of the ring using another connector block, then link between SW1 and...

Decent 13A Sockets are hard to find

I think all the “quality” brands like MK, Schneider, Crabtree and Volex, all do rounded corners. It’s only companies like CED, Deta and BG that do the square corner varieties now.

    EV Charger Installation

Replace that CU with a new 4 module CU, use 1 way to feed the house, and the other way for the charger. Charger would have to be the sort that doesn’t require a B type RCD.
