I have a small area (about 8 sq m) of herring bone parkay flooring to sand and varnish. Its in a hallway with open stairs so a large sander is out of the question. If I use a 4" belt sander whats the best way to sand it ? as I will have trouble sanding along the grain. Would a random orbital sander be better ?
A random orbit sander could be used but it will take you hours to do. Why can't you hire a large sander? to do the majority of it and use the random orbit for areas with limited access (ie near the open stairs)?
You can hire an 'upright' orbital sander from HSS, but you can do most of the coarse sanding with an 'edge' sander (it's very aggressive) then go down the paper grades to finish with the finest on the upright orbital. mack
