Can anyone please shed any light on what may be causing this problem I have.
I recently put eight sockets in my new loft conversion and a spark friend of mine connected the tails into the consumer unit, the existing downstairs sockets are on the rcd side while the new ring is not.
If an appliance is plugged into any of the new sockets the rcd trips.
Would a reversed live neutral in one of the new sockets cause this.
Would like if possible to eliminate any possible causes before he comes back to do my certificate.

Your spark friend should have tested the ring via recognized dead testing procedures prior to putting the circuit live, see the regs on testing. This would have highlighted the problem you now have. The new ring should also be on the RCD side. Have my doubts about the validity of any certificate he is going to issue you.
