Just need the 7/16" bearing cutter. Second question, mine instruction are same, but I can't remember whether I read that,or did it that way, probably did, but I done it same way as in earlier video for years. SIP instruction below. https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0ahUKEwiou9zFsPLWAhXHOBoKHSnYCC0QFggmMAA&url=https://www.sipuk.co.uk/media/uploads/01358-dovetail-jig-01578.pdf&usg=AOvVaw0EO7P_2GRao5WAQ5_h6j3J See this video, explains depth & tightness of dovetails.
It's important to correctly set up the combe plate too far back or forward affects your dovetails. You should able to cut blind or through dovetails with the jig,& even sliding dovetails.
There quite a few dovetail jigs basically the same design, sold under various names, so have a look on You Tube.
https://www.trenddirectuk.com/c162x...MIv4_W0PXy1gIVjr3tCh2QgAMfEAQYASABEgLCvvD_BwE Might find it cheaper on Ebay or not. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TREND-C16...421205&hash=item282f9372f3:g:WmwAAOSwOfBZw6uu https://www.amazon.co.uk/Trend-C162X1-4TC-Dovetail-Diameter/dp/B0052XR7FQ
I added that link for the trend cutter in post 12 but i thought i couldn't use it as the diameter of the bearing is 12.7mm and the bottom which cuts is also 12.7mm? I thought you said i would need a 7/16" cutter?
Sorry, didn't register. It the bit Trend list for the Axminster router, which is the basically the same as many other dovetail jigs available http://www.axminster.co.uk/axcaliber-dovetail-jig-502514
In your post 9 you said that yours uses the same 1/2" comb and that you use the 7/16" cutter? So should i buy a 7/16" cutter or the 1/2" cutter?
That I do, got one on the desk in front of me, a SIP 1/4" x 7/16" bearing cutter,I say it's bearing is 12.7mm, haven't got my micrometer to hand to check, but it's darn close, but Trend list the one you & me link to as suitable. And this is the Axminster cutter for the dovetail jig. http://www.axminster.co.uk/axcaliber-cutter-for-axcaliber-dovetail-jigs-13-19mm-material-666039 Will be a very slight variation in the dovetail, but not a problem, as the guide follows the combe guides.
I think what i'll do tomorrow is call trend up just to be sure, though they might not have a clue lol So you would say,go with the 1/2" cutter from trend?
Yes. It's only angle pitch of the dovetail your changing. Right, just looked on Wealden, they list their T1020B as suitable for most cam lock dovetail jigs, which what we have. https://www.wealdentool.com/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?WD=t1020b&PN=Online_Catalogue_Dovetail_122.html#aT1010B_2d8
I just had a quick look,it says the angle of A is 14.9mm where as the trend cutter was 12.7mm which is 1/2".
Kiab need your help, You said you have the Sip jig? Could you measure the centre holes for the 1/2" Comb template screws? I've sourced a spare template Comb but it says it's for sip. The company I found don't stock it neither is it on the website as its being discontinued as there are only 2. I can't get any info on it other than, it's for the sip dovetail jig. They are probably all the same centre holes through the range but I would rather get the measurements to be sure before getting it. I can then measure up your measurements to my lumberjack jig. When I bought it, one of the fingers was broken, so i wouldn't be able to put a length each side. Cheers.
The hole centres are about 400mm x 38mm, pretty sure the plates will fit. Identical to these on Ebay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dovetail-...273505?hash=item440e0967a1:g:BBUAAOSw6b9Z4ees http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dovetail-...274133?hash=item440e096a15:g:2AMAAOSw2PhZ4eqL And how can a finger get broken off, they aren't exactly thin metal.
Cheers Kiab That's how I bought it, it was new, only ever used once by this guy's dad and was stored in a garage. I only paid £7 for it. I can get a new template for £17. So £24 for a new dovetail jig.
