Fitting a grill element

Our grill element is broken but the new one has one central bracket rather than two on each side to screw into the roof of the oven. (Apparently ours is obsolete.)

The question is, can we drill a new hole for the new bracket and, if so, how would you recommend we do this?

    Any suggestions gratefully received.
    Thanks

Must be a very old grill if you can't find an element for it.

I think by law, parts for discontinued models have to be available for 10 years after the discontinue date.
