Can you attach toughened glass splashback to wood?

Kitchen walls had wooden panelling, which we left, because otherwise it would have caused all sorts of kitchen fitting problems. Have plastered the wood panelling. Now thinking of sticking toughened glass on it, for the hob splashback. Will it be safe stuck onto wood panelling (instead of an 'actual wall')? Thanks
