Looking at my wiring in house and I have a question. I’ve got 4mm Cable from CU to fused switch for cooker. And then 6mm from switch to appliance. The paperwork in CU states cooker is on 6mm with MCB 32amp. Is this usual to switch cables?
I can’t really see the fused switch to check rating. It’s behind a cabinet. I Can reach to switch off but not to open it. I thought it seems wrong. It was installed by a very well known electrical company so not just a diy person. and CU states it’s on 6mm. Definitely only 6mm for last two meters.
Actually maybe just a cooker switch the switch is sideways. Doesn’t really matter but I can’t see it well. it has 4mm singles going in from CU. And 6mm T&E to the cooker. Which is about 2 meters away. I was thinking maybe the 6mm was what they had on the van when oven was Installed but then CU wouldn’t say it’s 6mm.
Thanks both. I’m appreciative of the calm responses. It can get a bit hysterical here on the electrical forum sometimes. I’m always nervous to ask a question! just wondering why change during one circuit and whether it matters?
You shouldn't have basic insulation exposed outside the switch. I'm not convinced the 'white' cable is 6mm2.
Best way to tell is, the cpc on the 6mm2 would be single strand 2.5mm2, on the 4mm2, single strand 1.5mm2.
The switch has what looks like a stress crack on it, I'd replace it as it may further crack when operated in the future.
