Hello all, sorry if on wrong thread but wood furniture/plastic finish issue. Have used screws too big on some new flat pack furniture and the tips have come through other side. Any idea for best things to cover these without looking eye sore? Been looking at diff coloured screw caps, adhesive stickers etc. Would love to ask company to send spare piece to replace the damaged one but can't see that happening!!

Grrrrr that’s annoying but damage done - need to move forward !

How many panels are you talking about ? Just the 1 ?

Could try for a replacement piece first - some companies that supply flat pack do offer this service for replacement parts and will send out just the piece you need, as opposed to replacing the complete unit

What colour is the damaged furniture ?

If white, you could remove any raised / loose pieces and try wood filler that may blend in once set and lightly sanded (tricky as don’t want to scratch surrounding area though) but no good if a gloss finish

Depends also how visible the damage is and placement of the furniture

Plastic screw cap may be the way forward and available in a large range of colours

The type that sit flat will be less noticeable. They have a little ‘+’ moulding underneath that pushes into the screw head - that’s how you usually use them !

You can cut off the ‘+’ and glue or silicone them on - perhaps worth a try or go for a replacement

Deoends on how noticeable a ‘repair’ will be

Yeah, it is gloss finish unfortunately. Just the one piece, drawer front. The sharp end of screw coming through the surface. I will try the replacement request and white caps too. Seems the only options. Sods law... Breeze through it all and the cock up is on a bit that is visible. Thanks mate.

You can get little slips of melamine with a self adhesive backing that are generally used to cover up the screwhead. I have used these in this situation as well. Carefully sand or chisel off any raised edges keeping to as small an area as possible. Then put on a cover slip.

They work well if it is in an insignificant area and are pretty cheap.

The market leader is a US company called Fastcap but they are widely available here in UK. Do a Google search for Fastcap and you will get loads of suppliers showing up.

They are available in a wide range of surface finishes so you should be able to find one that matches.
