Change opening leaf on double doors

Discussion in 'Carpenters' Talk' started by Deleted member 247216, Mar 28, 2021.

  1. Hi,
We have a pair of French doors on our log cabin. They open out and currently the right hand leaf has the door handle on it, so is the main/first opening leaf. I’d like the left hand leaf to me the main opening leaf. Can I simply take off the doors and flip the whole door set through 180 degrees vertically and rehang?
    Thanks in advance.
    Lorra.

If the rails at the top and bottom are the same width, and there's no door drip (weather mould) you could do that. If not then saw or plane off the rebates and glue and pin a new piece of square hardwood to the edges of both doors, so that the left hand door opens out first. You may have to refit the lock and handle.

  3. Thanks for your advice Kevin.
