    Hey guys,

I posted a few weeks ago the same thing but I have some updated pictures.

I know Stevie recommended a carpenter, but I’m genuinely wondering, now looking at these joists, if it’s necessary to get a structural engineer in?

the part that is exposed is the part that needs removing and it becoming open space so you don’t hit your head when coming up the stairs as the clearance is only 1.52m right now, but if we cut back we get 1.9/2m

the joists going to the right side towards the wall , downstairs would be the dining room ceiling.

the joists going to the left side downstairs would be for the bathroom ceiling/hallway ceiling.

Despite seeing the photo's, it's not clear what's going on here. Looks like a DIY job from the start, that makes it difficult to understand how the thing is supported as the installer may not have followed any convention. You need someone on site with the knowledge to advise. On another issue, those sockets and the cable were not put in by an electrician, or anyone who understands electrical installation, the cables should not be in slots near the top of the joists, but run through holes at least 50mm below the top of the joist. Might be a good ides to get a professional to take a look at that too. (I am not a builder, but I built my own house, I am an electrician).

Agree with Bob.. the photos don't really help with what you're describing (and that for some reason you've got about a forest's worth of randomly sized joists under your floor)

Those photos don't help except to make me wonder why there is a load of new timber in there.

Still a job for an experienced carpenter, (Not a clown with claw hammer and an ego0

Thanks guys. Steve you still reckon I don’t need a SE? I feel like I look at this and wonder… wtf….

All I can tell (the pictures might not show it) so the joists continue to run across to the bathroom and the dining room I.e those new joists just continue on their merry way from one side to another of the house - at least that’s the assumption, the joists continuing to the right might stop, idk, the house doesn’t extend beyond a metre past the right side because only half of the upstairs was extended (it’s a dormer bungalow)
