I am looking from someone in the Bristol area (BS11) to fix a fracture in a garage wall. The wall is of block construction, rendered inside and out and the fracture is stepped along the lines of the blockwork, at the worst part is approximately 15mm wide. I have thought this may require some sort of crack stitching.

I have no idea if I am looking for a bricklayer, renderer, stone mason, general builder or a specialist for this work.

All guidance appreciated and If anyone is interested in quoting for this please contact me via this forum.

If its just your garage wall i.e. not part of a 2 storey, you just need a handyman to infill and point it up. It looks like your foundations are sinking and if they have stopped the above should be enough, if not then report back in 2 years and we can talk about underpinning.

Think one end of your garage has dried out underneath, ie foundations wise, and allowed the ground below to drop.

Bit like the Leaning Tower if Pizza.

Stitch repair, and possibly infill a widened joint(s) with a Joint Movement compound, the same material they put between sections of very long wall runs.

A job for an experienced bricklayers mate.

Thanks for the replies. So just to update I had the wall stitched and filled last autumn and looked good, no further cracking or obvious movement until this last (very dry) month and it has cracked and moved again and the rear garage door is sticking so I am assuming I need work done on the foundations.

I have been 'googling' and I don't know where to start. Am I looking at underpinning or resin injection? Do I need a survey first. I appreciate any help as feeling a bit out of my depth with this and concerned it is going to cost thousands.

I wish I could offer some nice words of comfort, but I can't. You've got a serious problem, and if you want it fixed you need a serious solution. It will cost at least a few thousand.
If you are Bath side if Bris, you could try Newmans building services, or Erwood and Morris.
Or trim a bit off the door so it operates, and see what happens when we get some rain.
