    it is concrete block 5m x 4m x 2.5m high situated in a
very open area of the garden so a wooden shed wouldn't
    last long

I believe a 3:1 mix sand to cement is what you need.

Thanks for info any idea how much sand i would need for a
    shed this size?

Surface area of your shed is 45 m sq. times approx 1 cm thick so your total is about 0.5 cubic meters (500 litres). The bags of premix usually have a 3:1 mix so that should be easy to work out how many bags you would need.

Get a half a tonne of sand and a dozen bags of cement and you'll probably need another wheelbarrow full to finish it(sod's law).

    Mr. HandyAndy - really

i don't often comment on here anymore because the forum is over run by idiots, however this thread seems fairly sensible so i will just say theat nearn is correct and 3:1 is far too strong. do the 5:1 route and it won't blow.

Pva the walls first with 5:1 mix ,then if youve not done any before nail some 10mm batterns vertically at 1 m interval then you can use these with a staight end to gauge the depth and saw any excess off with a sideways and upwards action when it starts to go of a bit.keep the mix wettish as well.

Just take your time a keep some clean boards under the area you are working to catch what you drop and reuse.

    Cheers and good luck
