I have been asked to fit an Emergency light in a very small communal area, I am guessing a non-maintained would be sufficient, but what's this about Certificates?Apparently it will only be accepted by BC if accompanied with Certificate, Any ideas as to what and where the certs are?

To save having two fittings in one area....

    Use maintained

Thus it can be used as a normal switched lamp, and automaticly come on if the permanent live fails

I would go the other way and recommend non-maintained.

The 'normal' light should be big enough and bright enough for everyday use, the emergency light will be much smaller - usually 18W.

Mount them close to each other sharing the same supply with a test switch between.

The test switch should be lockable in both the on and off position - there are a number of suitable key switches available.

Blank certificates are supplied with the SF lights.

To show that they have been tested every few months to prove they actually come on when power fails and also last for the required amount of hours too! ;)

Thank you SIR Sine, these log books readily available at all good merchants?

Thanks NikT, i was thinking of something a little cheaper like 'free', as i don't get many emergency lights to do.
Are you still going on your travels or have you made it there?

I,m sure you will find a sheet of paper (log book) enclosed with each emergency light you purchase.
