Hi everyone, just wondering if you could help me, my van was broken into on tuesday 20/02/2007, and the ******** managed to take my dewalt 708 mitre saw, before i smashed there rear window with my measuring tape, has they where getting away, it was nicked outside dunrobin court nw3 in finchley, when there was loads of traffic going by, at about 17pm, any info would be great, there was 3 of them, they had a white car, and obviously there left rear windown was smashed, i didn't get there number plate, any info would be great. The dewalt saw is a 708, with the old black stell stand, has ricky inprinted on it, and has bits of 2 by 1 pine stuck to it for wheels, any information would be appreciated and the recovery of the saw in good condition you would receive £150 from me for your trouble.
    Thank you

Thank you guys, and yes the only satisfaction that I got was to smash the windown with my solid 8m stanley tape which in turn smash into one of the *****, and yes I do agree that if you buy stolen tools then you are just feeding them, and encouraging them to do more, the police should be informed, although after contacting the police on this case, why bother!!

    Hi Humberto,

You should check the boot fair at White Hart Lane, Tottenham. It's either on Saturday or Sunday, not sure, never been there, but I'm told there's loads of stolen tools sold there for silly prices. Worth checking mate.

I agree that both the people that nick the tools are scum, and people who buy tools that have been stolen from other tradesmen are filth.

Get down to White Hart Lane Humberto. Let us know how you get on !

A lot end up on eBay now if this was a opportunist crime it might be their car you should contact the police & ask them to check cctv in the area there are many in NW3 All they need is a clip of the number plate worth a try the police are obliged to follow up any reported crime. What you should have done is check for any residential CCTV that might be paned on the street. If any one is a victim always have a look around for CCTV on houses flats or lamp post. I have 7 down my street 2 are on Ross kemps property along & one is paned on the street

    Talking of CCTV.
I saw a program about it a few years back and if I am correct, you are able to demand a copy of CCTV recordings. I think its something to do with the CCTV camera being in the public domain and therefore you have rights to it. That includes cameras in shops etc, provided, I believe that they have a view of a public area, ie the path outside the shop.
It might be worth investigating if for no better reason than to get the registration number and **** the cluts...

    Thank you Mr Mike
I did what you suggested and went there to have a look and i couldn't believe that there was so many stolen power tools for sale, alot of them still had the tradesman's name on it, surely the police should do something about it, I did see a mitre saw for sale there but had the name of Michael K on it, obviously from another tradesman, so I didn't buy it, I don't want to encourage this illegal business, and confronted the animal selling it and his response was that they where given to him by other tradesman to sell on, somehow I find that hard to believe, surely there should be something the police can do, when I informed the security guy at the gate i was also informed that in a car boot sale, you can basically sell anything you want, no question asked. Amazing hey
Anyway I will try and look around for security cameras has also suggested since the police obviously can't be bothered to do so, and here I am, working 6 days a week, long hours and paying their wages with the tax I pay and when i need them all they can do is send me a crime reference number after a week, and call it a good service, it makes me sick.

You are correct. a lot of people under estimate the power of the CCTV quite a few Americans have them in their cars now some time lapsed & many accidents have been resolved through the courts & insurance companies because of this. I doubt if a New York taxi driver would take a cab out if one wasn't working. You are filmed an average of 300 times a day.

Just to add to the CCTV thing . A while back my car suffered quite a severe dent in a Tesco car park . Got a quote of 370 quid to repair . Phoned the insurance coy just to see where I stood re excess etc. First thing I was asked if cameras were installed there as if so , the Ins Coy would get on to a specialist team on they're behalf who would go over the footage for clues and she added that the system was running at 90per cent success. Would'nt you know it , there's no cameras on that car park. Hope your luckier Humberto. Cheers !

i tried getting copies of CCTV footage from the local council to back up a claim of mine. (the claim wasnt against the local council)

they confirmed that the CCTV cameras were working and recording

BUT the smug "female dog" on the end of the phone told me "due to data protection............"

they refused point blank to provide any information at all

    waste of time

The only people who can retrieve CCTV footage are the police & courts & if you reported to the police about a theft claim they are obliged to investigate & will force the council to hand over any footage. A car accident is different unless you phoned them at the time of the incident. If it is on a member of the public’s property & is paned on the street they must display a sign stating CCTV is active. If I knew there was a CCTV camera that might have captured something I would knock on their door or leave a note.

Have a look at this link
    http://www.ico.gov.uk/upload/documents/decisionnotices/2006/Decision_NoticeFS50066908.pdf
it details circumstances whereby you can have sight of CCTV footage.

As for the Police. It is not their fault that they are unable to sort out your case. It is the fault of the governments we have had in this country over the last 20 years or so. As well as the fault of the do gooders who insist that a scum bag must have better legal protection than a victim. There is not one single penalty thats fits its crime in this country IMHO. Oh, and lets not forget the parents.......
