my tester up for calibration again ive hear you con calibrate your self bye testing on the same socket in your home every month and recording the readings is this true or is it just pub talk ta

Yes for verifying continuing operation, but you still need a yearly cal..

NAPIT dont require a yearly calibration if you keep accurate and regular records using a proper recording sheet and nominated checking boxes and sockets.

It has to be done properly.

and nominated checking boxes and sockets.

And ultimately, even checking boxes need calibrating...

There has to be some 'calibrated' point of reference..

Haha, the NIC gravy train keeps on rolling. Don't you guys ever get fed up with handing over all your spare cash ? lol

With resistors being rated at tens of thousands if not hundreds of thouands of hours use before degradation i think my checkbox will outlast the following 50 generations of sparx in my family.

    168 hours = 1 week

    8736 hours = 52 weeks

    436,800 hours = 50 years

Not quite 50 generations of Dandy's...

You only test it once a month for a fraction of a second, work that one out instead.

My you are hard work Dandy..

'Everything' ages with time, whether you use it or not..

And yes I do agree with you on the issue of precision resistors, but good practice once a year (for the sake of £50 or thereabouts)..just to verify the operation/calibration is correct.

But i need my tester at all times so i can have it by the bed at night if i decide to do some sleep-testing !

Or i might not want to have a period of time where i need to arrange for an additional test set to be provided at X pounds per week.

    Am i posting a lot tonight ?

Mmm..the calibration engineer came to me, at my convenience..

    Just spent £150 + Vat

On calibration for 5 meters (all in constant use)

Last calibration over two years ago

All on the button & required no adjustments

+ The they charged for new batteries which I had replaced two weeks ago

Maybe we should be plumbers, however with money down the drain instead of water

By the way i'm NIC and they don't require you to have annual calibration. You check monthly at home and only calibrate if readings differ dramatically.

As Buster states you dont need on going yearly callibration to your test gear when your in the NIC,only monthly checks.

    *****

    REGULAR CALIBRATION
you still need to cabrate the calibrator

ie. how do you know your socket is 100% correct AND
what do you use for Insulation and Continuity Checks ???

With such a strong word, Jimmy, you must passionately believe that the only way to ensure calibration is to part with ya hard earned cash. Sucker:(

Yup - NIC do not require yearly cals

BUT, you do need a system in place, and the prefered system is this:

TWO or more sets of test kit.
Use ANY socket for the monthly check - but sheck the result between the two kits - IE, make sure they both give the same-ish value for that socket.

    Same with RCD etc

Make yourself a resistor box with a couple resistors - one that is say 5ohm and one that is 250Mohm.

I dont think i am going to pay an extra grand just to check my meter, they must be insane.

Smnall companies just cant do that sort of thing.
