hi there, can anyone give me any advice before the electrician comes out, cos he seemed a little perplexed when I explained problem over phone. 12 v spotlights worked fine for several years, then would start to dim sometimes till almost completely off. Other days they work fine. Electrician changed transformer about 6 months ago, but same thing happening again.
There is a fizzing or bad connection somewhere..check the light switch for starters..make sure you are careful when doing this. Sometimes also the switch contacts can degrade giving the effect posted so check the switch..maybe blackening inside or something?
Torodial ******?..there **** or the ones I have seen were..but with these it was all or nowt..no dimming scenarios just on and off..rather like a cycling SON-T.
Try a 'trailing-edge-dimmer', rather than a leading edge one. The majority of dimmers are leading edge as they are cheaper to produce. Trailing-edge works by swithching the lamp on at the mains zero-crossing point and then chopping the **** end off the sinewave to get the dimming effect :O Where as leading edge units are the opposite, where the lamp is switched on part-way through the cycle and then off at the zero-crossing point.
Try fitting a quality one rather than Cheap Tat! was that after a bottle of wine and did you feel guilty
