Got a lot of varnishing to do, door casings, doors, architrave and skirtings for the whole house, what are the best brushes to use, and what sizes ? The architrave are 45mm width, skirtings 95mm depth.
Go for a 1" & 2" A quality brush will give the best finish. Purdey or Hamilton will serve you well, you can also consider useing a slightly larger brush for your doors. Bear in mind that the application of any stain/varnish without the correct prep, can ruin the look of the finest wood. I am using Ronseal satinwood in matt finish. Was going to lightly sand down using 1200 grade paper before giving 2 coats.
Your choice of abrasive is ok, you may need to use a filler on some areas. If so Brummer/stopper filler is about the best you can get, give all areas a good dust off prior to application and lightly sand between coats. Always sand with the grain of the timber and never against it. Best of luck. Potty.
