    Hello,

What items of internal and external door furniture are recommended/required for a front stable door?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Hello BA,

I have the locks that need to go on top and bottom.

I have six of these all with black 'forged iron' furniture to do for an estate and the brief is vague.

    I have come up with

    1) letterbox
    2) door knocker
    3) top and bottom five lever mortice deadlocks
    4) lever handle for top half
    5) escuteons
    6) 2 bolts to keep both halves together
    7) internal cross bolts
    8) chain?
    9) house numbers
10 anything else I might have forgotten?

you want one latch to operate from both sides when the door is unlocked if you have young kids it needs to be within reach or you will be forever getting up to let them in or out

temporeraly clamp/nail/screw the 2 halves off the door together when installing this will make accurate instilation easier and make shure the both halves follow the same path and avoid the halves binding or bolts not lining up

If the brief is vague why are you putting on stuff like knockers and door numbers.
Surely the minimum spec is a mortice sashlock with handles on the top half, two bolts and a letterbox.

As manassa implies, lever furniture is useless with a deadlock - minimum requirement is exactly as he says.

    Thanks for the responses.

I did forget to order the hinges!

The numbers and door knockers were mentioned as they have to match those on the row of cottages opposite. I now know that everything has to be the same as opposite which makes the doors drip with furniture and cost a fortune.

Apologies, sashlock on the top half and mortice deadlock on the bottom half with the same key for both.
