Hi Can someone recommend please? Have a medium size 4 bed house, 2 young children, 1 old wife, 2 showers, 1 bath, 12 rads, mains pressure of 3 bar & flow rate of 18 lpm. My existing vented system (cylinder & Glo-worm hideaway 80) is ancient & falling to bits & I need to upgrade. I have a spacious loft & a heating engineer has advised that I go for a ATAG A325EC combi (great boiler apparently) which can boost to 34 kw, and put it in the loft, which I am happy with to save space. I am getting paranoid about whether this combi, although good, will do the job, and have started thinking about unvented systems. I think I could cope with fluctuations in hot water pressure to a degree with a combi, but will using two showers at the same time be achievable at all? Even with this spec of boiler, are combis only really only suitable for small houses & families? What do you think I should go for? & if the answer is unvented do you know how much I should be looking at spending for (presumably) new boiler, tank (megaflow?) etc? Thanks for your help Steve
That boiler will do 15 litres minute, not enough for two showers running simoultaneously You will be better off with a unvented cylinder and pressurised heating system It would be good idea to look into Solar now as you are going for new system and there are some grants available.
yes most definetly the pressure is good but flow rate needs to be increased maybe new pipework and where did you check it?
Thanks for replying. I checked the pressure on outside tap in garden, at the end of the line, and the flow rate i checked in the kitchen sink using one of those measuring cups. Im pretty sure all my internal pipework is 22mm. If I forget using two showers at the same time ( I think I could live with having to wait turn), would 18 lpm still not be enough using the ATAG combi ? You see I want to avoid the cost of a vented system & installation if at all possible!
You have a simple choice either upgrade the incoming main and fit the unvented £££££££ or Fit a combi the ATAGs very good and very specialist (unless you're in Norwich where I know a great installer) Better off going for a Vaillant or a Broag
Yes then go for it,its a compromise not one i would have in my house but if its choice you want then so be it Have look at this storgae combi which will be alot better http://www.viessmann.co.uk/prodvitodens333.php
Ok cheers guys, So just to confirm, that if I am running just one shower at a time, the 18 lpm from a combi in the loft should be ok? yes?
Guys Do you think that 18 ltr per min from a combi in the loft should be ok running one shower at a time? Also, last question!, whats the benefit of a storage combi? Thanks Steve

Broag are good, but the BEST is ATAG!!! The A325 has an integral GasSaver. To buy one separately you pay around £600-800 The A325EC has 15 litre/min flowrate. The W-Bosch has 15 l/min on 40kW boiler. The A325EC is the most efficient boiler around. Unvented cylinder? My God!!!! Even an Alpha SmartFlow walks all over one of those and system boiler. They never learn.
Hey Walter,is it true that all the mice in your house have thrown themslves onto traps to escape your blitherings. Different day, same old carp.
OK pressure, but poor flow rate there mate. Have you checked your stopcock is fully on, inside & in the street??
Gosh, I don't think Water Systems has given very good advice, when you consider this poor chaps flow rate. Clearly he has a very limited knowledge.

But the water flow rate is not fine mate. Clearly there's a problem. So you are giving very poor advise to this poor chap. Are you a DaftyDIYer?
