I have a number of bags of Blue Circle Mastercrete Cement (the blue and yellow plastic bags) that I bought years ago. They were bought to render my raised driveway but certain events meant this got delayed. I still have the bags stacked up in our lean-to which is in the middle of being insulated...
I’m preparing my garden for some new decking and I have been digging up some old paving slabs and a small raised (brick) flower bed. I came across these fibre like strands attached to the rubble, under the cement. I noticed it on another area too.
the house was built approximately 1993. The...
Hi all,
I've got a bit of a dilemma.
I've recently removed a chimney breast from the loft space and first floor (stack had been removed historically). Most the soot and loose material has come off which is good and now it's time to make good and get the wall skimmed over.
Sadly, the tricky...
Hi all the concrete or filling between the slabs have deteriorated over time and have broken off. Can anyone recommend the most efficient (if any) filler for this job? Any tried and tested products? Best way to tackle the job?
I have recently had to work with floors where a levelling compound has been used but the finished floor was far from level.
Our new workshop is a former dairy, and the cement floor was laid so it falls to a drain. I would really like it to be level and smooth, but it is a rented unit, and I'm...
Hello,
2 weeks ago I laid a sand and cement screed at 75mm thick. On the whole it is okay however there is one corner section where the screed is noticeably higher by 15mm.
is there a way I was grind/sand this down without having to take up the whole floor!
Any advice would be much appreciated!
Hi all,
Quick background, recently had a galvanised steel water bar installed at base of garage door to help stop water coming in during heavy rain. However, there is a gap between the bar and the garage door tracks. Probably 3mm or so, but of course it does allow water to come in (see pics)...
Hi all,
I'm hoping to get some advice/feedback for an idea to fix a leaky garage door. I have no building experience, but I'm a fairly hands on / practical person so I'd like to give it a go.
Basically, our garage sits 6 inches or so below road level. When the rain comes down heavily or for...
I've never done a patio before. I've created a based by clearing the area then flattening the soil with a whacker plate, added a layer of scalpings and whacked all that down too so it's flat and solid.
I'm now ready to lay the sandstone pavers and I'm wondering what mix of cement and how wet...
Hi All,
Last year we had our path tiled with black and white tiles. It looks great. But, the tiles keep coming loose and you can hear it when walking on them. The tiles are set with a sweep rather than a grout. What are the options for making this right preventing more tiles from coming loose...
I have an odd shaped space where I would lik a shower. I have stayed in an apartment with a cement/concrete shower tray studded with pebbles. I’d like to recreate this with marble edging. I don’t know if the one I saw was custom made or off the shelf. Any suggestions if/how I can do this?
Hi
I'm working on my house and doing underfloor heating and trying to save as much as possible
I've got an wet overlay system with cement boards installed and now need to screed on top. It needs to be at least 10mm. Self level screed bags are working out quite expensive as I've got 90m² so I...
Getting some work done and the ground workers burst the old black alk mains, so made a temp fix, and laid new mdpe pipe, to be connected once gas meter had been moved (the gas pipe was right in the way of the mains at entry point to the house) . Meter was moved yesterday However the mdpe has...
Hello All
I'm looking for ideas of the best way to fill a gap in my ground floor. I have boarded floors, and recently knocked a breeze block diving wall down. This has left an 1.5 inch(ish) hole in the floor from the height of the boards down to the concrete base and the width of a breeze...
The pointing in an internal garage wall (which is connected to the side of a house) needs re-pointing after a bit of water damage coming down from roof had made the pointing in places crumbly.
does anyone know if it’s better to actually repoint the bricks or fully cement the wall instead...
Hi all
The BBQ project is progressing with the main structure built. I am now building the chimney bit which involves laying a course of cut down blocks (90mm high) 30mm overhanging the row below. After a lot of messing around I seem to get it going and laid 2 rows. As I only had a small amount...
I'm looking for 'no wood' decking - so no wood whatsoever regardless of whether the wood is pressure treated.
There are 4 x concrete pillars. The existing wooden decking is partially rotted.
I came across this 'block and beam' construction for a suspended floor. A youtube video is here: ...
