Hi all ,
would anyone know what king of pointing is this ? Is it just normal mortar ? Need to repoint as some of it came off :)
Also , I'm assuming the black stuff is the DPM , does it look ok ? Seems like it is deteriorating a bit
Hello.
I have a glue down LVT in my kitchen (self levelled before). Near to the patio door a small area (~20cm) came up do to underneath moisture.
I would like to damp proof this area, so it won’t happen again. What do you recommend?
I read about Arditex NA, but I’m not sure if I need liquid...
Hi all,
Just a bit of help with this issue. We have a a little storage room that is attached to the house with single lay bricks. There seems to be water or damp getting though. Can anyone recommend any paint or tanking slurry that may combat the damp? Good enough to store house hold stuff for...
I had some damp walls/ rising damp in my 1910 house which upon some digging outside, I found a small leak at the base of the exterior waste pipe (directly outside of the interior damp walls). I’ve stripped the wall back to expose the brick. I’ve seen a lot of varying opinions about what type of...
Some of mortar below the DPC level of my house is crumbling. I’ve re-pointed the brick and was going to apply Black Jack liquid DPM (theres already existing liquid dpm below the DPC level around the house). How long should I wait for the mortar to cure before painting on the liquid DPM?
Hi. About to embark on new project. And have engaged a architect for drawings. But just a question. When putting down the DPM under the PIR, can that same DPM be drawn up and used for the damp course for bricks? Forgive my ignorance please if this is a daft question...
Thanks
We're looking at re-doing our garden and patio which would Include an ACO along the width of the house and a paved step the width of the bifolds as the current step down is huge. Problem is the stwp would cover the air bricks. Read about leaving a gap behind the step to keep ventilation but...
Hi folks hoping someone can advise....
I've extended my garage slightly front and side and was wondering what exactly should be happening to the floor?
Should I dig down the new floor area and simply lay some dpm and concrete over level with existing concrete...or should I look to break up...
I have a new log cabin which I've decided to add insulation to.
The concrete base had a DPM added during construction. The tanalised battens are resting on the concrete directly. I want to add PIR board but understand that ideally I should have DPM under the PIR. If only this had been better...
Hi all,
I have purchased a 6x6 summerhouse which i want to use to wfh in. The foundation is concrete paving slabs and it is a smidge uneven towards the front corner (1 to 1.5 cm). The shed has golden oak preservative and is brand new from Power sheds. I have purchased pedestal risers which...
Hi guys,
Firstly let me start by saying I'm not a builder but often look on here for helpful tips and find it such a helpful place. Now I'm undertaking a little project, I would love it if someone could help me directly.
I'm going to build a little porch on my house, it's round the back and...
Hi all,
I live in a 1930s and have a stand alone garage. I'm pretty sure there is no DPC installed in the walls. I've been thinking about converting it into a garden room / office. I would be able to install a membrane on the floor to prevent damp from rising through the floor.
What options do...
Hi, I'm after advise please.
I want to tile my garage floor but it doesn't appear to have a dpm.
I was planning to lay a screed over the current floor but building work is new to me and I'm confused by what I'm reading.
Do I prime first? If so, what with?
Is self leveling as easy as it...
So I’ve recently bought a house- the house is dated back to 1950 and use concrete floors throughout the interior of the bottom floor of the house. When taking off the skirting board it seems the concrete floors aren’t laid up to the wall, leaving a 2cm gap which can be dug down. Question is can...
Hi Guys,
Just had the house plastered and have now noticed the corner where the garden party wall meets is very damp... I have raked out the mortar between the house and wall (wasn't bonded) and inserted dry rods on every vertical joint at a 45 degree angle (crossing the wall) into the main...
So here we have a ground floor flat in a 1930’s building. This is my first experience with a concrete slab flooring, let alone with a basement below it.
The existing flooring consists of:
New tiles (just roughly dot and dabbed on to the old vinyl tiles, to sell the place I think)
Very old...
Hi all,
Hoping for some advice please.
I've got an older house circa 100 ish years old and I've had a supporting wall removed last week and supporting steels installed.

Hi everyone,
Could I get your thoughts? Two years ago, a contractor completed phase 1 of my renovation, creating a passage to an annex with a 7cm step down. I now plan to raise the floor level but noticed efflorescence on the floor at the patio doors.
Can I use a Bituthene layer to close the...
Hi all,
I'm converting my garage and had instructions from building regs to use 1200g damp proof sheet on the walls before battons and PIR insulation but I can't find anything on the internet of how to attach the damp proof membrane sheet to the walls. Any advice? Have I misunderstood them?
Hi,
In need of a bit of advice or guidance regarding the possible need for damp proofing to an existing external wall that now becomes an internal wall after an extension. I plan to keep it as exposed brickwork as attached visual.
The problem (or maybe it's not a problem) I have is the new...
