    Sealant for sandstone

I have a Marshall's sandstone patio. It's a really boring grey when dry but nice colour variation when it's wet. It's been down a year and I'm now thinking of using a sealant. Are there any pitfalls I should be aware of? Which sealant make is good? Which type of sealant? I'm ordering some...

How to polish cut porcelain tiles

I am going to be laying a porcelain patio using 20mm thick porcelain tiles. The patio is complex and will require a lot of cutting, and I will likely have to use some of the cut edges as the tread of a step, meaning that those cut edges will be visible. What is the best way to polish cut edges...

Hi forum first time posting, our garden slopes from left to right (looking out from the house) on the left there’s concrete fence posts about 6ft tall. We’ve dropped the level on our side to get the right level for our new patio which is probably about 1 1/2 ft down now, we’ll be raising that...

    Large patio needing repointing

Hi Have started raking out the joints in my patio but after about 4 rows I have noticed movement in the slabs. My question is as follows: is it worth pointing these back up and doing the patio in sections to prevent the movement in the slabs or just carry on ripping out the existing mortar...

Patio step up to Damp Course

We have just had a lovely patio put in but we are concerned that the step up to the door reaches up to the damp course. This is the only part of the patio that touches up to the house, as the rest has flower beds around it. However, it is quite a large section - as it extends out either side of...

Hi all, About to lay a new patio with 18mm thick sandstone slabs. Have pulled up old patio to find a usable concrete base. Want to install a recessed drain cover but wondering how to do this as the depth of the recess frame is 60mm so am guessing the patio would have to be level to this? Is...

Hello all, I pointed up the patio a week or two ago using dry mix and brushing it into the gaps, kept rinsing the patio off after every few slabs. Paving pedestals - Any good?

I'm about to create a new patio outside my new sliding doors (8m x 3m). There is about 30cm to the ground floor. To avoid a DPC bridging issue I was considering keeping the void and using paving pedestals instead for 20mm porcelain tiles Have you used them? Are they any good or a terrible idea?

How to block free edges when applying a jointing slurry

I will be using a jointing slurry next week for a sandstone patio I have laid, and I was wondering how best to block free edges when applying the jointing slurry. I though I could use modeling clay but I wasn't sure if that would be the best option. Any ideas?

How best to roughen the edges of natural stone slabs that have been cut using a cut off saw

When I lay natural stone slabs, if I cut the slabs, I use a chisel to chip the cut edge to make it rougher rather than clean and straight. Whilst this does work, I feel there must be a better way of doing this. Does anyone have any suggestions for a better way to achieve a rougher edge?
