Hi, I’ve volunteered myself to plaster my mums bathroom for her having removed all the tiles which were previously on the wall. Can I plaster straight onto this old plaster (obviously after filling the holes and PVAing) or should I treat it with something different? All tile adhesive is off of...
I have a loft hatch that I want to board over I've put supports for the plaster board but one side can fit 12mm board but other side is 6mm. I can't cut away anymore of the hatch surround. Is it possible to thin a plasterboard with a surform or similar?
Thought I'd ask here before I do it and...
I'm are planning in filling these wall chases after we had some re-wiring. I'd be much obliged if anyone can shed any light on the below:
1. I've already got some "TouPret Renovating filler" at home and wondering whether I can get away with using this somehow?
2. I am especially concerned...
I was prepping the walls getting them ready for the plasterer to come in. A chunk of loose old lime plaster came off down to the brickwork.
Should I apply a layer of cement render and key it or just wait for the plasterer to apply bonding undercoat on it when he comes in.
Its a good 4cm deep...
Hi folks, new poster but long time lurker - doing my first renovation and these forums have been a massive help so far! Got stuck though...
I removed x2 walls of tiles along back and end of bath. Our plasterer advised and put a layer of bonding coat over the old grout and said we should tile...
Apart from the difference in price, does anyone know the difference between the semi-flex plastering rule and the finishing rule?
They both seem to be used for flattening, finishing and ruling off.

Hi all,
To provide a better idea to as the issue I'm having, I noticed a little nugget of paint on the wall, not thinking too much of it I scratched it off with the intention of remedying any issue afterwards, the paint actually peeled off like vinyl sheeting, not sure what paint as it's a...
Hi. I’m having a loft conversion and retiling the roof.
Structure is up including dormer but there are delays in getting roof materials to retire the front roof.
Builder wants to press on a do boarding insulation and plastering whilst waiting for roofing materials. Roof has holes in it from...
Hi
Apologies in advance for my lack of knowledge. I have just bought my first home that I fell in love with and now realise it needs much more work than we thought.
My questions
The living room needs plastering. Most of the tradesmen want to put plasterboard over the walls and then skim them...
Hi all,
Bought a house just at the end of lockdown and stripped the wallpaper, walls not in such a bad condition but most needed skimming (some rooms worse than others).
If I was wallpapering I probably would've gone right ahead but want to paint instead.
(Actually managed to get hold of some...
Hello! First Post!
I had my main bedroom plastered 6 days ago, all the walls and the ceiling. Since this has been done my door has started sticking. It catches on the door frame at the bottom, both door and frame are wooden.
Just wondered what could have caused this? Only happend after the...
I’m going to get someone in to skim my bathroom wall soon. Just wondering what do plasterers expect you to have done I.e. tape joints, fill larger gaps between boards, install corner bead? I’ve ballsed up an awkward pb joint where the wall angles about 15 degrees and the studs don’t quite line...
I had a larger loft ladder fitted some years ago. To make it fit, the guy had to cut about 4 cm in to the coving. I'm now left with a rough looking edge (see photos). Is there a product that I can mould on the coving to give it a tidier finish before repainting? The usual wall filler stuff sets...
Hi All
This is a question for any plasterers out there. I am doing a self build extension, and I need to have the internal walls and ceiling plastered (I will be getting a pro to do this for me). Is it easier/better to plaster directly onto the new walls, or is plasterboard better? Obviously...
Looking at the best way to damp proof this wall previously having rising damp issues
wall has been injected outside but it’s 9inch thick so was told to inject the inside also but was a bit tricky as the wall is just lumps of stone in the inside with next to no mortar.
tried a DPM but wall...
Hi there,
Redecorating and there's a few holes in the wall plugged in with bonding plaster and one large stretch where the finishing plaster has been scraped away. Pix attached.
The obvious choice to repair the finishing plaster would be more finishing plaster - but there's none in stock, like...
Hi there,
Currently renovating and I've been stuck in an awkward situation. My father-in-law has been doing a lot of our plastering (walls and ceilings) and I've been majorly unhappy with the results. I've ended up spending countless hours sanding, filling and in some cases - re-skimming.
I've...
Hi, I’m hoping someone can help as I’ve tried everything I can think of. I had my ceiling skimmed and after the plasterer left I noticed what looked like drops of water all over the walls of the room. Thinking it just needs to dry along with the new plastered ceiling I left t for a few days...
Any suggestions please.
My electrician has just finished and I need to make good of this electrical chase. My concern is because the chase is quite large just doing the usual, PVA, bonding coat and then multi finish coat may lack strength and could potentially crack or even fall out in the...
