HI.
We're re-doing our floors and got quotes from https://www.alliedcarpets.com/ and https://countrysidecarpets.co.uk/
Both companies have quoted for screed which needs to go under the flooring, but we're wondering if we can do it ourselves to save some money.
Can anyone recommend a good...
Good evening all,
I would greatly appreciate some advice before I make a terrible mistake...
We have recently moved into a small bungalow which was built in the 1960's on an uninsulated raft foundation. The floors are laminate and carpet, with just 5mm foam / fibreboard insulation. We will...
Hi guys,
tomorrow I’m getting the kitchen floor screeded. It’s using Mannok cement so dry screed. Around 80mm but 25 or so of that is insulation.
I know in 48 hours it’ll be walkable, but we need to lay laminate flooring a week after, and I’m panicking it will cause issues as it won’t be...

Hello,
2 weeks ago I laid a sand and cement screed at 75mm thick. On the whole it is okay however there is one corner section where the screed is noticeably higher by 15mm.
is there a way I was grind/sand this down without having to take up the whole floor!
Any advice would be much appreciated!
Hi, I'm after advise please.
I want to tile my garage floor but it doesn't appear to have a dpm.
I was planning to lay a screed over the current floor but building work is new to me and I'm confused by what I'm reading.
Do I prime first? If so, what with?
Is self leveling as easy as it...
Floor is 30m2 with a variance of ~0.04m and ~0.08m (mostly the latter). Needs to be raised to match the rest of the ground floor. The question is what is the best way we could be talking c.3m3 of material? The catch is the floor needs to be solid as it's susceptible to floods. Current...
Hi All,
My house has a solid concrete floor. I am thinking about having screed on the entire floor, as the house is a project and all the existing floor was knocked about by the previous owner and by me when I put a central heating system in. I'd like it perfectly flat for LVF.
My question is...
Hi guys,
Looking for abit of advice here.
I have a concrete kitchen floor that is falling 30mm /4.5m from the large window at the back to the existing floor boards. I can't take the slope out as it would cause a 30mm step at the transition from kitchen to living room.
I have some Bostik...
Our goal was and is to get the ground floor leveled of a house we just moved in. Underneath the carpet were Marely tiles containing asbestos, below them a layer of bitumen. We've had the Marely tiles removed, we were told by an asbestos surveyor that there could be asbestos in the bitumen, and...
I am looking to screed over an existing tiled floor in order to install vinyl flooring. I was going to purchase the mapei ultraplan renovation screed 3440, I understand that I may need to prime the floor beforehand. Could anyone suggest the best primer to use? The room is 9m2.
I was looking at...

- would this be suitable at a thickness of approx 10mm across the floor without cracking etc? Will be sealing it with a resin based garage floor paint afterwards
- would...
Hi everyone,
I have just had my property screeded two weeks ago and there is a sort of papier mache type smell in the property. Or like wet sand.
More in some rooms than others.
Seems to be getting less. Will this go completely over time?
It is currently making me a little nauseous.
With...
In the middle of a renovation and looking for advice on the best order to complete some work.
We have replaced an existing timber floor with concrete, it’s due to have colotex insulation, underfloor heating and screed. The plan is currently to build some new internal walls in lightweight...
Evening all, I have a leaking flat roof roughly 3x3m. Looks like osb/plywood has sagged in couple of spots, more than likely Joists are not in ideal condition.
Thing is I don’t want to spend money on a roof I plan on knocking down. I plan on building a large extension so need to a cheap...
Hello All
I have a 7x6 garage floor (concreate) that i'm looking to smooth out with self levelling compound (Mapei Ultraplan 3240 Renovation Screed).
Because i'm working by myself due to the size of the room i'm a little worried about getting it all done in one go, plus i've never used self...
I’ve had a screed floor installed in a new steel garage (just Wednesday past) - I’m finding it’s quite dusty and crumbly I’m some parts.
I’m thinking about the Mapei 1210 Self-Leveller, but wanted to check:
- Is this suitable as a top layer for a garage?
- Does Self-Leveller require a primer...

As I can only add around 25mm of insulation to the floor as there isn’t much step down from the external personnel door. (Will be adding plenty to the...
